✔ Pros:
- The OnCue Plus app is a nice addition for those who have a Koehler generator.
- The app allows for programming of automatic exercise cycles.
- The app provides an event history page to view past events.
☹ Cons:
- The app lacks the capability to set the controller time from OnCue.
- The frequency settings for programming the automatic exercise cycle are limited to only two options.
- The event history page only displays the time elapsed since the event occurred, rather than a specific date and time.
- There is no option to view the next or previous event when looking at an event detail.
- The app and technology are not user-focused and have poor quality control.

Useful but lacking in several key capabilities
By RetiredEE (Pcmac user)
A must-have if you have a Koehler generator but... it’s lacking several key capabilities that would make it so much more useful.
1. You cannot set the controller time from the app. You have to get the key and go to the generator.
2. You cannot set or reset the exercise time from the app. You have to get the key and go to the generator. If you remotely start the generator, that becomes the new exercise start time and resets the exercise interval.
3. You cannot see the output current of the generator.
4. You cannot read the engine oil pressure. At least on the 20RESA - just the oil temperature and the temperature is not even close to accurate.
5. It randomly looses the network connection and will not always reconnect without a hardware reset which requires removing AC power and disconnecting the genset battery. Then it will immediately reconnect but this is a lot of effort and could be fixed in the controller firmware.
I’m a retired electrical engineer with extensive experience in embedded control and software development - I know what I’m talking about here. As I said, it’s a must-have but it could be a lot better.

Embarrassing Technology
By bprimo64 (Pcmac user)
Koehler should be embarrassed by how poor their technology is. Being in the tech industry, including User focused cloud applications, its like Kohler doesn’t test their technology. Simple things just don’t work - or don’t work consistently, and you never know if its broken or the service down. Additionally, I’m not sure what industry they hire out of, but their app and technology is incredibly NOT user focused.
Thank goodness this is a nice to have feature and you don’t have to rely on it for anything. If you did, Kohler generators would be going out of business - though I did recently read an article about poor quality control of Kohler generators. Maybe QA of manufacturing and QA of tech report to the same person.
In today’s world, they should simply be embarrassed. Kohler - hire some decent people to your tech team. You’ve had long enough to get this right...and you still haven’t.

Good, but...
By johnmsch (Pcmac user)
Overall, the this app app is very nice, but I do have a few suggestions:
In Event History, the "TIME" column shows how long ago, for example "1h ago", "6d ago", "27d ago", etc. Please change that to a date/time, like "Oct16 12:30a".
Again looking at the Event History page, when you tap on an event and go to the details page, you can only view that one event. To look at the next or previous event, you have to go back to the Event History page and select another event. Please add a Next & Previous option when looking at an event detail. That would make it so much easier to go through multiple events.
On the Notifications page, just like in Event History, it uses values like "6d ago". Please show the date/time there.
Most of all, I'd really like to see a way to download all events in the Event History page. It would be really cool if all the events could be exported to a spreadsheet and emailed to the user's email address. At the very least, export them to a CSV file or even a flat text file.

Two easy changes would get it five stars
By Alpha-Gmoney (Pcmac user)
Two changes would get this app five stars. Given that this is a residential system and comes at a good price, just a modification to item #1 below may even get it five stars.
1. There are only two frequency settings available for programming the automatic exercise cycle. The two auto-exercise options are “weekly”, “biweekly”, or it can be turned off and run the exercise manually.
Certainly there are many opinions on how often the system should be cycled for routine maintenance. Regardless, a couple things are certain. A residential generator is not priced or designed for mission critical applications such as a data center or a hospital. Also, the climate plays a role in how fast a system degrades from being stagnant. My point being that an exercise schedule of weekly or biweekly racks up a lot of hours (aka: wear and tear), therefore drastically shortening the useful life of the system.
My hunch is that this limited parameter is no accident and a factor in Kohler’s product life cycle. (Planned Obsolescence)
2. There are to many settings that still have to be set at the generator. Some are simple changes such as changing the date and time.
