Install Shades app on your Windows in 4 steps below:

Download an Android emulator for PC:
Get either Bluestacks or the Nox App >> . We recommend Bluestacks because you can easily find solutions online if you run into problems while using it. Download Bluestacks PC software Here >> .

Install the emulator:
On your computer, goto the Downloads folder » click to install Bluestacks.exe or Nox.exe » Accept the License Agreements » Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.

Open the Emulator app you installed » goto its search bar and search "Shades"
The search will reveal the Shades app icon. Open, then click "Install".
Once Shades is downloaded inside the emulator, locate/click the "All apps" icon to access a page containing all your installed applications including Shades.
Now enjoy Shades on PC.

Works great in target display mode

I use my 27” iMac in target display mode with my MacBook Pro and had no way to control the brightness on the iMac. My keyboard only controlled the brightness of the laptop, which was of no use. Finally found this app and it adds this app to the iMac—Yeay! Problem solved.

I used the original version of this app for many years and I loved it. This app store version does not allow upgrading to version 1.2, and when launched in yosemite it shows up on BOTH the task bar AND the dock, and it won’t allow you to remove it from the dock ( I’m sure someone has a secret squirrel method to do that). I have deleted this version and downloaded version 1.2, which works like it always did, from the charcoal site.
Cinema Display 23” (2002) Problem Fixed!

The old Cinema Displays no longer have brightness control in System Prefs, this app allows you to control the brightness on these ancient monitors (which are still very nice!).
