Was the best search tool hands down until APFS (Apple File System) in macOS High Sierra…now useless
By ElvisMelb (Pcmac user)
This was by far the best search tool for the Mac of any option, far superior to Spotlight because it performed the search live rather than relying on a catalog file that might be out of date, and because it made it easy to find hidden or system files.
Unfortunately, APFS (Apple File System) that came with mac OS High Sierra is not compatible with this software, making it beyond slow and essentially unusable. If you visit the developer’s web site, you’ll see in the support pages and comments that they’re not all that concerned with updating a free piece of software. I can understand their position, but I’d be happy to pay for it if I could to have it work again.
For those of you considering the software and have an APFS-formatted drive, don’t bother.

10 STAR App!

Can’t say enough good about this app. We originally got it because we had a folder on a PC file server that we were trying to find files on, and it would sometimes take up to 15 minutes just to load up the folder, let alone search it. This app searched and found the files we were looking for LITERALLY in 15 seconds.
Now we use it for everything, even Mac folders that the Finder is taking FOREVER to search through — this app does the job in seconds — sometimes almost faster than you can type out what you are looking for.
Major kudos to this developer!!!

Excellent, core tool
By KWLan (Pcmac user)
Originally got this to double-check spotlight as I knew some results were not compete. Sure enough Squirrel found everything Spotlight did and more, confirming incomplete results and did it in a tenth of the time. Invaluable just for that, but have now turned to using it when I need to find anything and everything.
If they update the app and start charging $10, I wont complain. It is fast, accurate, thorough and flexible. If they do update it, they should call it Squirrel, in fact, I renamed it in my app folder so I could find it easier,

Works Like Find Should
By overprocessed (Pcmac user)
Apple's Spotlight has always been a piece of garbage and always will be as long as it uses indexing to search for files. At the moment I can't even search for any files on a drive that I use for Time Machine because it refuses to index this drive. this app simply does a search without having to depend on a database. Novel concept eh? Not really. Once upon a time when Apple actually made good feature decisions this was the norm. Maybe one day they'll be smart enough to implement this simple search system again.
