What is JellyfiSSH?

JellyfiSSH is a bookmark manager for ssh connections on Mac that allows users to store all the connection details and set terminal settings such as text and background colors, terminal type, shell, tunnels settings, grouping, password, and more. It is compatible with Yosemite (10.10), El Capitan (10.11), Sierra (10.12), and High Sierra (10.13) and makes all its connections through Apple's Terminal application or iTerm2 v3.x. It is especially useful for users who monitor and/or look after several web servers, file servers, or any other device which they connect to via ssh or Telnet.

Software Features and Description

1. JellyfiSSH makes all its connections through Apple's Terminal application or iTerm2 v3.x and is especially useful when you monitor and/or look after several web servers, file servers or any other device which you connect to via ssh or Telnet.

2. With .term settings support, the ability to set a background image per bookmark setting is very useful if you are connecting to several servers at the same time - it allows you to visually distinguish one from the other easily.

3. The preferences for JellyfiSSH let you set a default bookmark on launch and the debug level of your ssh connection for troubleshooting purposes.

4. Once you have all your bookmarks loaded, you can quickly launch them through the JellyfiSSH dock icon or Menulet.

5. Simply right-click (or control-click) on the JellyfiSSH dock icon and a bookmark list will show.

6. JellyfiSSH also provides a simple interface for setting up tunnels allowing you to access resources on a remote system through the ssh port.

7. There is also a JellyfiSSH menulet giving single click access to your bookmarks from the top menubar.

8. JellyfiSSH is the leading bookmark manager for ssh connections on the Mac.

9. Releasing on your desired bookmark will launch that bookmark into Terminal.

10. There are also preferences for using the Terminal Default settings for those who need certain emulation types.

11. You can also turn off the main window on launch and use the Menulet for all your terminal launches.

  • What a time saver - Exactly what I needed!

    By OCTServices (Pcmac user)

Thanks guys! I have been utilizing Putty via a Vista VM running on my Mac because I was having an issue getting remote connection windows to open correctly as a group automatically via Terminal. I have had the Vista VM running for years for testing and troubleshooting customers Windows issues and since Putty was there and had been configured for my needs I kept using it. When time is money you go with what already works. I knew it was just a matter of a simple setting being missed somewhere so I purchased your app to set up my terminals and then looked at the shell command settings it created. Whereas I do not use your app directly it was well worth the $4.00 to install and show me my mistake, as well as the way, to get Terminal configured for my needs, not to mention the time it saved me not having to search for the answers. I now have multiple groups consisting of hundreds of servers all working properly and I no longer need to keep my VM running all the time for Putty.
  • Almost there...

The interface isn't terribly Mac-like (groups should be accessed in a list window or present a cascading menu instead of a drop-down), but it almost gets the job done. Where it falls down is in overriding my default Apple Terminal key mappings - so I'm stuck with the "broken" behavior for the home, end, Page Up, and Page down keys. It would also be nice if it allowed for us to just selec the Apple Terminal profiles instead of setting these directly in the Jellyfish app - this way we could group certain types of connections (I have over a hundred) and edit every member of the group in one place instead of having to do them individually.
  • Needs Improvement

    By drcabrejos (Pcmac user)

I've been using SecureCRT for windows for ages and I love all the options they provide, specially being able to save your sessions in different folders, and setting up login patterns which enables you to never need to remember a password again when you have all those different login screens. I'm aware they have a Mac version now, but lets be honest, they still have long ways to go. Found Jellyfish SSH to be able to fix my issue on saving my sessions at least, but would still love the option of sending custom commands based on what it was received. I understand this could be a complicated task since it would be using some terminal application like "Terminal", "iTerm", etc. It will save you passwords if using SSH, but if for some reason you need a telnet session, you won't be able to save in username/passwords based on the prompt. Also, I would like a way to remove the icon from the dock, and have the icon only in my menu bar only. On the options, it only provides me an option to remove the icon from menu bar but not from dock. Another good thing to do would be when adding a new member, if you already selected a "Group Filter" and then press "New", that it would default the "Member of Group" to the previous selected "Group Filter". I do like the clone feature that is embedded on it. :) Please allow us to delete the "Main" group!! I don't like the naming of it and it can't be deleted. When pressing "Show this app Window", could there be an option added to remember the last group filter that was opened? I just use this when doing a group connect since it can't be done via the dropdown window. Group connects would be good if there was an option to open in tabs instead of always opening in new windows. Also, I understand auto-login does not function on group connect. But why? With regards to the dropdown window, would there be a way to display just the groups, and once a group is clicked, it would display the hosts under it. I do love the way it's displayed on which it doesn't go to the side, however when having several hosts, it's quite painful going down the list. As an example, I have about 15 groups with around 6 - 8 hosts in each group, and this will be increasing soon. You can imagine how big the dropdown is becoming which is becoming painful to me. If dropdown displayed groups and then hosts, it would make it a lot easier to manage. I do think this is a great app, specially if you access few devices. I do believe there is still improvement to be made but just wanted to give my suggestions on what I think it could be improved. I definitely recommend this app for mac users, since it's the best out there for saving sessions. Hope this is helpful for other users out there as well!!
  • Works Great with High Sierra

    By ZoomZoomZoomy (Pcmac user)

I’ve been using this program a long time. Recently upgraded to High Sierra and it installed and worked fine. I guess terminal sessions technology hasn’t evolved a lot since the last update of 2012. Note that the default crypto option of 3DES will be rejected by most modern Linux servers, so select AES128-CTR or something else more modern.
