  • Perfect for writing

    By writerantony (Pcmac user)

This thing is great. It’s immersive—it’s got nice backgrounds and that special typewriter clickety-clack touch. It works just like a typewriter—no deletions, just X marks, and that’s great for writers like me who tend to write a little bit, erase, write a little bit, erase, write a little bit, give up. If you want to snuggle up at home and just get some real writing done, get this app. It’s free! It made me super happy. It’s definitely worth a try. Edit: the only thing that’s a little bit off is the word count at the bottom. Not to be nit-picky, but it’s not always a hundred percent correct. I think it counts the words/characters you’ve X’d out in your count, so if you’re a rushed typer like me it’ll probably measure slightly more words than there actually are.
  • Nearly perfect

    By MarkRDungey (Pcmac user)

I’m a fan of writing on typewriters. Mainly I like to avoid the ease of “editing on the fly” which is so easy on a computer. The thing is, as far as typos are concerned I like to fix it quickly. Many purists may disagree—after all, the reason I write on typewriters is to not impede the stream of consciousness (read imagination). All that said, I like everything about this app except for a couple of typewriter features that are missing: 1) Ability to set margins. I find that if I print out a this app document the line breaks are different. I have yet to figure out how to tweak this (if there is one). 2) Setting tabs. Like the aforementioned margins this also exists on old typewriters and it’d be nice to have it. A couple of other additions that’d be nice is multicolored ribbon (black/red) and line spacing options. But hey, what can you expect for free! Awesome app. I’d pay a couple of bucks for a version with my wish list!
  • Almost There

    By Phoneographer (Pcmac user)

I've been looking for Hanx-style app for mac for some time now. I love typewriters and used to write on one all the time. Mostly because it's mechanical noise somehow created a better writing experience for me. I can't explain why but I felt I could write easier and get lost in the writing with each clack and bell. That said, this is the best typewriter simulation I've discovered and it's almost perfect. My only complaint is that after I've typed something and want to export it, there are a lot of mistakes I have to correct on the line breaks and wraps. I can't figure out how to get a space before and after a return to stick. It runs the words together and it's annoying to have to fix this each time I copy or export my text into another document. If this were fixed and worked correctly, I'd give this 5-stars.
  • Wonderful writing experience

    By HoshBaron (Pcmac user)

I love this app. I use Google Docs and MS Word. But sometimes, I need a fully immersive writing option that makes writing just a little bit harder and requires my full attention. I love the full-screen mode. It allows me to avoid the tabs in my browser and my notifications and just WRITE for a bit. Since I updated to Catalina, there's been a bit of a delay when I first start typing. Other than that, this app is perfection.
