- Install and setup all relevant software on your RaspberryPi with just a single tap on the app.

- Automatically configure your RaspberryPi's WiFi, etc.

- Install amazing Plug-Ins for Homebridge from the tiny Plug-In store.

- Control your Pi by rebooting it, restarting Homebridge, updating all required software components (OS, Node, NPM, Homebridge, Plugins, etc.), easily managing your Wifi-networks, viewing all Homebridge-PlugIns (NPM) at a glance, viewing all Homebridge error- and system-logs, running Homebridge in the debugger to quickly determine where the problem is, using the network scanner to easily find and identify your devices, creating backups of your settings and configurations, and enjoying a built-in SSH-Terminal.

- Easy setup plugins for popular and important plugins including Fritz!, WeMo, Wake on LAN, Domoticz, HarmonyHub, HomeAssistant, HomeMatic, Hue, LiFx, People (Wifi device trigger), Relay, Remote Outlet, Sonos, Synology, Telldus, and Tradfri.

- Setup Homebridge incl. service, configuration, and all kind of plugins available with NPM.

Pros:

- Easy setup with NOOBS image

- Regular updates

- Ability to add plugins through the app manually

Cons:

- Inaccurate temperature measurement

- Outdated People app configuration

- Limited plugin options

- Setup screen implies starting from scratch and Ethernet connection is necessary, which is not the case

- App caused Homebridge to not stay running on an already running Raspberry Pi Zero Wi-Fi

So this is a great idea but falls short. I already have a pi 3 running this app but decided to try this out on my Zero that I had already installed this app on but no plugins yet. The setup screen implies it’s not possible to proceed without starting from scratch which isn’t the case. It implies it must be connected via Ethernet which also isn’t the case. I really want to like this app but there isn’t enough plugins. That’s not necessarily a problem for me since I’m already able to do this stuff via terminal but if there were some sort of way to add plugins through the app manually without having to touch the config it would be amazing. I’m not really a developer so I have no idea of a solution to that is possible but I feel like there could be a way of connecting to this app tagged repos? Anyways, I’ll continue to keep this app and check up on it’s progress, once it’s there I’ll stop stalling on setting this app up for my friends and they’ll be able to manage it themselves.

I’m not new to computers and have setup up RPI’s for specialized uses. However, I tried setting up an RPI W to use for this app and just ran into a ton of issues—mostly related to error messages in the setup processes. It seems like every set of instructions had something wrong with no explanation. I even tried going the Docker route (which should be easier/simpler) for novices but simply could not get it working—I might be dumb... I was about to give up and saw this in the App Store. Decided to try it out and glad I did. The app just finished setting up my W and I’m about to try playing/installing plugins—directly from my iPhone! The English/instructions is a bit sloppy but don’t let that turn you off. It’s awesome being able to setup and monitor the RPI from the phone.
  • A few bugs but great otherwise

I was able to get this working with a completely new format of NOOBS. Paired perfectly, but there were a few woes. One: the new image does not measure temperature right. It appears the same issue exists in the sister Raspberry Pi app as well. Additionally, the People app is outdated and uses an incorrect configuration. Otherwise I love this app and hope it gets regular updates. I’ll be using it and the Raspberry Pi companion app.
  • No Joy

    By Wm. (Pcmac user)

Tried to use this with my already running raspberry pi zero Wi-Fi. After app finished this app would not stay running. Using the app, it could not repair home bridge. Erased the Pi. Installed pi operating system from scratch per app instructions, then attempted to use app to install this app. At the point where App wanted to configure Wi-Fi I let it go. It rebooted the pie, and the pie was dead, a couple of broken icons in the menu bar and a frozen mouse at each reboot. Erased the Pi I installed again per directions in the app with the intent of not letting it configure Wi-Fi at the end. App finished it’s config made the telephone sound and then crashed. Opening a back up showed that home bridge could again not stay running. This app seems to crash repeatedly while trying to use it to diagnose or repair this app. Pre-App, 6 attempts at hand install... minimal success but better than this app. this app eventually becomes unstable and won’t stay running ... a central theme to the hobbyware. Installing home bridge on raspberry pi with nodejs is a miserable experiment in incompatibilities, defective system configuration scripts, and poor software development. The hope was this app could bypass the configuration issues and make it a little easier. So far several hours in, no joy in this app either. Had such high hopes for this app. :-(
