  • Essential/iPad, Worthless/iPhone 4S

By I can count (Pcmac user)

I gave this a two-star rating when I first got it, but now that I’ve grown to depend on it and LOVE it with my iPad, I’m changing it to four. It still has all the flaws noted below, plus a few more I’ve found since, but I couldn’t get by without it now and use it every day. It makes file transfer to and from the iPad fairly easy instead of impossible. If an update would fix it so I could plug it into my iPhone 4S (using a hardware adapter) like I originally wanted, it would be five stars and double the usefulness. Original review: I was able to copy the photos, videos, and music from my iPad, so I'll give one star better than the lowest rating for that. The iPad had plenty of space, so that's worth almost nothing. It can play music that I put on it from my computer, but that's worth almost nothing because you can't have the iPad plugged into power while playing, and it refuses (or can't) put it on the iPad like I thought. Where I really need it is with my phone, with only 1.4 Gb of space left. I need to copy stuff off so I can delete it and free up space. The app SAYS it works with iPhone 4S, and SAYS it works with iOS 8, but on my iPhone 4S with iOS 8.0.2, the this app app instantly and always exits regardless whether the this app is plugged in or not (using an adapter). Therefore both the device and the app are completely worthless for the purpose I got them. ZERO STARS where it counts.
  • Best way to airdrop music files to iOS and turn iPad into computer replacement

    By MacLoverPro9 (Pcmac user)

Ok so I was looking for a way of transferring files from my iPad to other iOS devices when airdrop options were not available. This app makes it possible. I am now able to airdrop music files not downloaded through the iTunes Store to other devices. I am a digital content creator and having the ability to transfer files as easily as a non iPad computer is really helpful. All music files have a directory so you can create playlists and cycle though your music and iPhoto’s and other files. This is like having a backup files app on your iOS if the native files app does not meet all of your needs. I am thrilled with the functionality of this app. And it works in iOS 12. 🙌🏻 would recommend this app for the workflow enthusiast who wants to work from iOS devices full time. 📱📲
  • Solves a major iPad issue

    By Sing (Pcmac user)

Unless you want to rely totally on cloud backup and storage, working on an iPad can be frustrating. I got the RavPower this app with 64gb of memory and an SD card slot. I can now back up my photos and important docs to a 128gb SD card, and swap cards when the first one fills. As someone else mentioned, to back up other files, besides photos and videos, you use the share function from within the app that created or is managing the file, and, if you using the SD card version of an this app drive, you have to manually set the save path to your folder on the SD card...that is easy to do with a couple of taps. The app could be better, but most of limitations are iOS related. File App integration would be great, as would the ability to copy other files in bulk, as you can when copying photos. Still, this app and an this app drive open up all kinds of new possibilities for anyone using the iPad for serious work.
  • update - it does what it needs to, albeit awkwardly

    By Zschollful (Pcmac user)

When I first got the drive/app it was very difficult and frustrating to figure out how to use. I soon discovered there is a very specific way to back up files from third party apps such as procreate - you have to go into the respective app, hit "share" and then copy it to this app. That is the only way as far as I know. And you can only do one file at a time. This is among the very few flash drives that work with the ipad so I suppose I have no choice to put up with the bugginess. But I suppose having the flash drive and its compatibility exist in the first place outweighs the awkward UI. I'm just hoping these will be addressed soon because it has a lot of potential to be a really good app that a lot of creative professionals will want to use, primarily to store large files, like PSDs and videos. Bugs - whenever I try to rename a file, the dialogue shoots upwards off screen making it impossible to see what i'm writing Feature requests: - integration with files app - able to move files and folders within the app (holding and dragging) - ability to batch import/export - when uploading a file there is no option to save it as a separate copy, you can only save over the previous version
