  • A very functional and versatile app!

    By Jane Argh (Pcmac user)

For years I’ve enjoyed the flexibility of Mac’s native TextEdit app, but have always wished it could do a little more (i.e. multiple document nesting, quicker access to customized editing tools, tagging/filtering/sorting). I feel like this app was able to make this all work for me. Obviously it’s not TextEdit, but it does save individual notes (or ā€œarticlesā€ as it calls them) as TextEdit docs on your hard drive. This app doesn’t have any cloud-based backup, so I appreciate that there’s something easily accessible on my Time Machine backups if need be. After using this app pretty consistently over the last two years, here’s my take: PROS: Easy note creation, easy editing, ability to add just about ANYTHING to a note. And if I can’t create something in a note, I know I can usually do it in TextEdit and copy/paste it back into this app. But thankfully there’s little that can’t be done in this app. For editing, it’s been an enormous advantage for me to be able to customize ALL quick-access editing options: you can designate specific fonts/styles/colors swatches to show in the top bar so you can apply them in one click. And the tagging system: VERY user-friendly. At first I thought the inability to create folder structures would drive me crazy, but adding/using tags is so seamless in this app that I’ve grown to prefer it. One last thing: there’s been muliple developer updates in my time using this app - AND - the developer was extremely helpful and quick to respond the two times I emailed with questions. CONS: The only issue I seem to have is with the search functionality. When I search for a key word in the search field, the notes containing this word will show up on the left…but, it doesn’t show me specific locations of this word WITHIN any documents. I want to stress that I LOVE this app, and it's been a game-changer in organizing my notes. In the past I’ve used Evernote and OneNote pretty heavily, but this app is just quicker and more user-friendly for my brain. With that being said, there’s a few things I’d love to see in this app, based on my personal preferences: 1) the ability to float a note when I need to use multiple notes simultaneously, 2) the ability to add tab settings and hyperlinks (right now I just copy/paste in from TextEdit), 3) a ā€œHelpā€ menu tab with a search field so I can quickly search the menu, 4) the ability to choose whether to have an embedded document show up as a preview image or a file icon/name, and 5) the ability to make the app window even smaller.

This could be a great basic note app with simple convenience features ! It still has a few bugs and glitches and some typos. But if you want your notes always secured with encryption and a password - this will do that ! It could be a great way to index and save existing text file notes made elsewhere, I think.
