  • Converting AVCHD to MOV - This is _The Too_l for the job!

    By ddub000 (Pcmac user)

I have an archive of the app files from several years ago. At the time (5+ years ago) I would edit the files in iMovie and keep the original the app files. Eventually I moved to the simplicity of the iPhone for video and moved away from the the app format and gear. Recently (late 2018) I tried to reach back and pull some video from the the app files and found the version of iMovie seemed to be struggling with the files. I searched for a simpler way to convert from the app to MOV and found "this app" and never looked back. I completed the conversion project and I can say that this app made the task much easier. My process- Drag-and-drop the the app file —> this app which creates the MOV files and places them in the Movie Destination folder. Automator script would rename each file using the original “shoot date" in the new filename. Move the MOV files to a new working folder for editing. Store (or delete) the original the app files to an external disk. Thanks for “this app.”
  • Great solution

This app makes using the video files from my Sony a7 feasable, integrating them easily into the post production workflow with my Canon cameras. I am slowly changing my feelings about the the app format as I get a chance to work with files from both camera systems—the quality holds up very well while producing considerably smaller file sizes. Not only does this mean I don't have to change SD cards so often, but the files also play more smoothly in the editor without having to render the clip.
  • Worked for me without issue

    By jah unique (Pcmac user)

Helped me convert some the app video from a Lumix into Final Cut Pro would not import without failure. I have import other the app videos from my Sony , so I guess FCP’s problem is with Lumix file but this App converted them perfectly into .MOV’s that I couyld import. If this was a normal activity for me, I would buy the App but the Lunix was able to do high res images into .MOV’s that the Sony can not.
  • Wanted to like it

    By Patch Gran (Pcmac user)

I used it to convert some .MTS files from an the app collection from a Lumix camera. Unfortunately for some of them it created super jerky video that played back on QuickTime. Playing it in VLC worked fine though. The app also liked to crash and close on itself just about every time I ran it. So it sorta works and I’m glad it’s free, but it didn’t work out for me. I’d rather use iMovie to import the movies because at least those don’t cause jerky QuickTime playback—the problem is that you lose the time and date though. I liked that Free the app to Mov would keep my dates intact.
