  • Expensive app, complete waste of money

    By Robyn752 (Pcmac user)

I purchased this app so I would have all my books listed with me whenever I went to the library or bookstore. I loved the idea of being able to share the list between my Mac and mt ipod Touch, even though I was a little hesitant to spend so much money on an app. I figured it would be worth it for the convenience of not having to create a manual catalog of my books. Almost right away I ran into problems - the barcode photo scanner was very sensitive so it took a long time to get a clear enough picture for the app to recognize the book. It was faster to type the barcodes in by hand, so I did. That wasn't so bad, but it was not made clear in the description of the app that you would need wifi to transfer between the two. I did not have wireless in my home at the time, so it did not work. I recently added a wireless internet to my home and tried to transfer the files, it did not work. I followed the directions given to share with Bonjour from my Mac, opened sharing in the Touch app, and got nothing. After several tries, I gave up in frustration. Apps are supposed to be easy to use, and this one is just about useless. I wish the app store gave refunds, I would definitely return this app if possible. It is a complete waste of money, and such a disappointment when I had such high hopes for it.
  • Not worth the money

    By Helen Clement (Pcmac user)

I had great hopes for this app. And I have tried repeatedly to use it successfully. But its design just isn't good enough, it doesn't work well enough, and it has no support at all. I mean, not even a FAQ, and almost no instructions. I was really looking forward to being able to get call numbers and subject headings for my books, and I loved the idea of being able to sort and print out lists. I have thousands of books and it is very, very time-consuming to try to catalog them by hand. However, many of my books are old enough to lack ISBNs, and quite a few are even older and lack LC numbers. this app can't help me with these! As for printing, it really doesn't work; if you use more than a few fields (and why wouldn't you, when this app offers so many?) they don't fit on the paper! I have spent a year trying to get this app to be worth *any* effort, let alone money, but at this point I am giving up. The effort of cataloging my books by hand will actually be more rewarding.
  • A Really Good Library App

    By JRDU (Pcmac user)

I'm just interested in cataloging my books (at this point, at least). As a personal quirk, I like my books sorted by Library of Congress call numbers (I'm one of those for whom PR6019.O9 U4 holds some meaning). I'm happy to say that this app was able to appropriately sort my books. My books are all over the place and the ability to quickly mark in which location a given book resides was also helpful. this app was quick at downloading information about books, including grabbing LC calls, so I didn't have to tediously paste them in from my old list. It would be perfect if the iSIght scanning worked a little better. Typically, I couldn't grab the ISBN from the barcode and had to type them in by hand. Another minor problem was that it didn't seem to like 13-digit ISBNs, although 10-digit ones worked fine. Entry could have been smoother. Synchronization with my iPhone was smooth, once I realized that changes had to be saved before they would sync. All in all, a solid app that will make figuring out what books you have (and where you've shelved them) easier.
  • Good stuff

    By Salahidin (Pcmac user)

Although I experienced a few difficulties in making the iPhone app work properly, I must say that this app is excellent. My entire collection (+500 international books) was quickly added to the database, and the information gathered was usually precise and complete. I would highly recommend it for those who need to manage large collections of books. However I would appreciate better documentation and a more intuitive interface.
