  • Not bad for first attempt....

    By burglar2174 (Pcmac user)

Hardware is excellent and compares very evenly with the Eero in reliability and distance. Handoffs between to the best "spot" seem to be a bit slow, however no drop in connection is noticed. Connections do appear to want to hold on to the current "spot" and not jump to the best "spot" (at least delayed) for the best connection. The whole house and yard is covered with excellent speed (unless it is still stuck on a spot and not jumped to the best one which slows things down a bit). First run software has its issues as expected. UI is excellent with many user options. No way to indicate which item is on what spot. DDNS by the app is very poor and loss of remote connection happens frequently. Parental controls for time restrictions are set to one restriction per day per "family member". No way to set multiple time restrictions (dinner time and night time). If you manually pause a family member it resets the time restrictions back to default for each day and you have to enter them again. Being able to DNS, VPN, and other options is an excellent touch.
  • So many bugs...

    By MaD_HuNGaRIaN (Pcmac user)

The radios and mesh seem to work ok. Performance isn’t great, but coverage is good. But the software..l.holy crap what a train wreck. I’ve owned this system since it was released. I’ve reported bugs upon bugs and initially I was contacted by engineers to help them identify issues, but the. Communication stopped. So, here are the main issues. The aiProtect just stops working randomly leaving you exposed. The host names aren’t always stored, so you’ll have names like Sony, Apple, Anonymous which makes it impossible to set up family controls. Family controls don’t work. You can try to block types of traffic and at certain times but it really doesn’t work at all. Their product line is so fractured with multiple apps, aiMesh vs Lyra, and the web app has different screens and options than the iOS app. It’s a true case of a potentially great product line that is woefully mismanaged. Since those are some of the main distinguishing characteristics, and they don’t work, I can’t recommend this system at all.
  • Poor Justification for Data Grab

    By vinhsynd (Pcmac user)

App now “requires” location access with new update. The justification given is to “display correct WiFi network name and network time”. This persists even when the WiFi network is setup to only access a network through local connection. Ignoring this prompt renders the app nonfunctional. If you purchased Lyra network hardware under the illusion that it’s your network to administer, you might be in for a surprise. the app has resounding shown it’s not- it’s the app network and they will have your location data or you won’t have the illusion of control over your network.
  • Coverage Great - App Not So Much

    By MacYokeOfOpression (Pcmac user)

Pleased with the overall coverage of the mesh WiFi however the app only connects about 15% of the time. Combine that low number with the fact that evidently no manual exists for this system (only a quick start guide) is pretty easy to see that many problems can come up.
