Yes, i am a teen using this app. And yes, i do deeply hate this app. However, i do understand it’s purpose and it does it’s job very well. This review is solely to try to fix some bugs that really inconvenience me every day with this. The main bug that is that whenever my phone gets disabled, it turns off notifications for everything. I understand not getting notifications when i’m not supposed to. However, when it gets reenabled, i have to go through all of my apps and reenable the notifications. Also, with some apps like Instagram, it completely removes the option to turn notifications back on. I can fix it by reinstalling it, however the same problem occurs whenever my phone gets disabled and reenabled. I don’t completely know if this can be fixed without affecting other things, however, it would be amazing if the developers that make this app could fix it. Other than that, the app does everything it was meant to do. It is a well designed and developed app, with very few bugs. In fact, i can’t think of any other bugs off the top of my head. As i said before, i really don’t like the app, but does any teen that this app is being used on really enjoy it? It does its job finely, and the developers deserve props for it.
  • Unlike the rest of the kids

    By kidbeingcontrolled (Pcmac user)

Many kids being monitored by this app give it a bad review and I agree with some of them. However this is a great app and definitely serves its purpose. Although apps do get rearranged and it is inconvenient to have to turn your time on every time you use your phone it really helped me become less attached to my phone. One thing I would definitely advise thinking about before you get this app is why your child is using their phone a lot. I was a 14 year old when this app was installed on my phone when I was caught up at night on my phone and using it constantly during the day. I personally don’t really enjoy staring at a screen all day but I was on my phone a lot because I was talking on of my closest friends out of suicide almost every night. This app limited my access to doing this and could have potentially killed them. If you know why you kid is needing these restrictions and they are not on their phone for a good reason this is a great app to help control the amount of screen time they use. I also would consider using this app as a training tool and not just for a forever thing. This app helps change mindsets and once this happens the app is no longer needed. Please give you child a chance to prove this after using the app for a period of time.
  • Too many problems

    By Averie P (Pcmac user)

I had to get this app for screen time restrictions, which i don’t mind, but let me tell you. This app has problems. The biggest thing is having to pause and resume every time you want to use your apps. Apparently this is on purpose, but the apps toggle button lags like crazy and sometimes won’t even turn off. I have left it on before and then i can’t use any of my apps for the rest of the day. The second problem is that you can’t get notifications on your excluded apps, period. I can’t even see the updates in general. Even if i can’t open the app it is nice to se the notifications. I have an etsy account, and I haven’t seen some of my orders because of this. Another problem that I know of is that facetime straight up can’t function. Even on the app, it always says “FaceTime failed” or “ending facetime”. My mom said she emailed tech support and they gave her a solution, but iphone features should be able to function fully on their own especially on a program that we pay for. Apps cannot be moved on their own with this app. It is an extremely high maintenance app, and yes screen restrictions are reasonable, but they should be easy and simple to manage. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
  • An objective review

    By Iland dreamer (Pcmac user)

I’m monitored by the app but I’m leaving this review as objective as I can- because I want others considering this app to hear a non-biased opinion from the “victim” side. It’s very effective for restricting your children’s access, which, for the purpose of this app is great. It can remove everything, from safari and Siri to the notes app and camera. I would consider though the safety risks of removing per say the notes, camera, or safari app. Though it seems like in an emergency you’d only need phone capabilities but I’m assuming a child is being monitored who uses a iPad over an iPhone. Kids are smart when it comes to emergencies. When I was 10 years old i was alone and got locked out of my house and figured out how to download a online phone application through the AppStore. I don’t know what apps you can selectively control but if you can I’d keep restrictions light on things such as safari and the AppStore if your planning to restrict your child’s iPad or unserviced iPhone. Overall works great with a few bugs. If I were a parent who valued control this would be the best approach.
