Map Crashes App - Useless to Me

For the iTrex to be useful for locating a pet or tracking luggage (2 reasons I purchased it), I need to be able to find the device, and hence the pet or luggage, on the map. However, every time I attempt to use the app to locate the device on the map, the app crashes & I have to sign in again. This makes this device pretty much useless to me. I'm taking the two devices I purchased back to Target. It's no wonder it was on sale.
App does not work

I signed up for an account and was prompted to look for an email for verification. It never arrived. I went to the itrex website and sent them a note. No response. The website FAQs said it may take up to 48 hours to be received. And nothing. Deleted app and tried again. There is no modern app that makes you wait 2 days before using. How did this ever get released to the App Store?

The app is not user friendly - I had to figure everything out by trial and error. Battery life is bad. The tracking portion on the map kept shutting the app down. I bought this with the intention of putting it in the app small child's backpack to make sure arrived at school and home on the bus as he should and this appears pretty useless for that.
