Software Features and Description

1. Best for higher pitch instruments such as the violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet, or oboe, but will also work well using the harmonic frequencies of lower pitch instruments too.

2. Provides a simple interface to visually check whether the pitch for a note is low or high, and lets you "see" the pitch change as you make adjustments.

3. - Doesn't directly pickup fundamental frequencies below 120 Hz (B2) because of iOS device hardware limitations, but will pickup the harmonic frequencies which will tune more accurately.

4. - Extremely accurate - within 1 cent (1/100th of a semitone) of each note with sub-second response time.

5. (The International Organization for Standardization specifies the frequency for the note A in the treble stave as 440 Hz.

6. - Adjust pitch incrementally from 400 to 480 Hz or up/down a half/full step from A440.

7. - Great for the violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet, or oboe.

8. Shows exactly how many cents (1/100ths of a semitone) a note is out-of-tune.

9. An easy-to-use accurate visual chromatic tuner for your instruments.

10. - Developed in Austin, Texas, the "Live Music Capital of the World".

11. It does NOT play a tone.

I have only used this a few days. I am flutist, and I just recently purchased a $100 Boss this app so I could work on accuracy of pitch. I couldn't believe a $.99 app could be as effective. Boy, am I surprised. It is just as accurate. I like the fact that I can also see a representation of how loud/soft the note is, because part of my process right now is to decrescendo on a note without losing pitch..quite difficult to learn. I would have given this 5 stars, except for four things: 1. The box that moves back and forth to indicate flat/sharp seems erratic in its movement, so I find it distracting. 2. The numbers that tell you % flat/sharp are so far from center, as to require too much eye movement to see them.. So again, distraction rather than help. 3. I often work on octaves, since this is set up to work on the frequency of the pitch, it has to roll across 7 notes to get to the next octave and the note names at the top spin across and I find that distracting, too. 4. No help option. I wish I understood the peaking waves at the bottom better. Or at least, no OBVIOUS help button. To overcome the distraction, I usually set up both my Boss this app and this one when I want to work on pitch. Over all, it's totally worth the purchase, and is a good way to work on pitch without a big expense. If you are just starting out, try it before spending a lot of money on the other ones.

Great little product. The pitch analysis seems dampened or buffered so that the needle isn't twitching all over the place like most other products. Instead the harmonics are displayed graphically, rather than the wheel or needle chasing harmonics instead of the primary note. I love this thing and use it mostly for my Cello.
  • Tuned piano in 2 hrs

    By Willbrlw (Pcmac user)

The piano was just too far off. Out came the old 'art of piano tuning' book. Yes, I lack a lot in the experience department for tuning. Man, counting the beats is hard. Then the' there has to be a better way ' thought comes along . This app is the better way. It works well on the mid range. As noted, high and low octaves are hard for the app, but you know what, my ear has the same problem too... Double checked with the tuning fork and the ascending 4ths and 5ths test. I am very happy with the results , the piano sounds great. Five stars!
