  • Glad it exists, needs some UX design improvement

    By Enderisnotmyrealname (Pcmac user)

It’s great to be able to control my stereo remotely, but the organization of controls on this all doesn’t make a lot of sense, particularly with regard to adjusting volume, which you might have to do fairly often. There’s a lot of switching of screens necessary even though there’s plenty of space on a single iPhone screen (and certainly an iPad) to display (and control) volume for each individual zone and even a master control too. There’s no need to have a special “knob” interaction when we are all familiar with the classic iOS slider for volume that both displays and allows you to interact; all the knob does is force more clicks into the user flow. Really, if there were a simple page that had all volumes controllable simultaneously without paging around the app, I’d have rated this app much higher. Hopefully we’ll see that in a future version!
  • Totally Satisfied and Content So Far

    By Boondock51 (Pcmac user)

First, I opted to give this App a five (5) rating because 1) it is free, 2) it is very convenient and accessible, and 3) the thing really works great--simple as that. It downloaded quickly and worked perfectly right out of the gate--not a single set up or pairing problem. Next, just like any other mobile App (or anything else for that matter), nothing is perfect to humans. It just takes a little bit of patience and common sense to become familiar with its layout and navigation. Lastly, it absolutely incorporates just about every basic function necessary for me to communicate with my the app receiver--conveniently located on my IPhone which is almost always near me. What a jewel!!! For those who find fault with it, just uninstall it and move on. It is perfectly OK to walk around with remotes in your hand. Life's choices can get a bit tough some times, right?
  • Figured it out.

    By Bigdaddy1565 (Pcmac user)

I don’t know if this is an iOS issue, app issue, or both but it is useless in its current state. Rarely connects. The receiver is on my network. I suspect the app needs a major update. Until the, don’t waste your time. Reloading the app doesn’t help. Manually entering the IP address doesn’t help. Disconnecting for my network and reconnecting doesn’t help. The old unplug/replug doesn’t help. So until it’s fixed, your stuck using a regular remote. It used to be great. Now, it’s just taking up space on my phone. Deleted. 2 things which may be obvious to some. First, DHCP must be set to “on”. Second, firmware must be updated (I had to use a thumb drive for this). Then the app works again. It’s a great app again and honestly my negative review may have been because of my problem, not iOS or Yamaha’s problem. Or maybe the June update fixed some connection issues. Regardless, I now recommend this app.
  • Convenient and easy to use - when it works

    By Col. 3:17 (Pcmac user)

Yamaha has done a pretty good job for the most part on this app. Absolutely an improvement over using the remote to navigate and setup the system, except you’ll still need the remote for advanced setups. Streaming works similarly to many other devices and is wonderfully convenient, when it actually works. I use two MusicCast devices at home, a receiver and one of Yamaha’s small speakers. The connection to either (or both at the same time) has always been weak. There have been few times that I’ve actually connected without issue. Typically it takes several attempts to get my phone to stream to the receiver. Then, when it finally begins playing tunes the music will cut out every few minutes for 5-10 seconds. Very unreliable. Yamaha’s equipment has always worked PHENOMENALLY for me in the past but, seems like they’re shooting in the dark with their wireless abilities. Certainly hoping they can release an update to fix the connectivity issues.
