Software Features and Description

1. The previews show a general strobe display demonstration, an example of using the calibration function to measure the accuracy of a tuning fork and an example of guitar string tuning.

2. The PST combines a radial Spectrum Display with a classic Strobe Tuner and Note Dial for an ultimate visualization of pitch and tone.

3. The Fundamental Indicator Tic on the Spectrum Display shows the Note of the Fundamental along the Note Dial, with the color designating the Octave.

4. Use the Spectrum Display for coarse adjustment by tuning the Fundamental to the center of the desired Note Indicator.

5. The second screenshot shows the display for an E 440 Tuning Fork with the Calibration Dial enabled and adjusted.

6. As the input approaches the desired Note, a Two Group pinwheel pattern becomes visible rotating in the Strobe Display.

7. The first screenshot shows the display tuning a Guitar Low E string.

8. The central Spectrum Display shows the input spectrum wrapped around the Display, with each Octave drawn in a separate color.

9. The Strobe Display is highly sensitive with response speed that is practically instantaneous and has long been the preferred tool for piano tuners and instrument technicians.

10. All overtones of the input are shown as peaks in the Spectrum Display pointing towards their corresponding Notes.

11. The final screenshot shows the Input Signal Scope/Spectrum Display Page.

  • Fun but

    By H.V.Information (Pcmac user)

It is theoretically possible to indicate a pitch more accurately than an instrument can dial in or a string can make. This tuner makes us think that it provides that means and compels you to try, to play with the app like the cool toy it is. The bottom like though is how it all sounds when you're finished and how easy it is to use. It doesn't sound that good and endless fiddling required. I've checked out all my instruments learning what I can do and how to do it. I give this app 5 stars because it's fun to play with, not because it's a good functional tuner. I haven't tried a strobe tuner before so I have nothing to compare it to. The down side is it's not a practical option during a live performance. The fact that it uses the audio microphone is problematic. It's only useable in a quiet place. It rather needs a contact pickup able to clip on your instrument. According to the instructions there's a pickup that plugs into the charging port and you need that because the headphone/microphone jack feeds in through a band pass filter that ignores frequencies below 150 cycles which means the iPhone or iPad is designed to be deaf to bass notes. I haven't found a pickup configured with a plug which uses the charging port. The manual octave selector pops out of lock every time the note is tested. When it does, the band pass filter drops out and then the display is momentarily chaotic and you reset and try again; lots of playing around. I can't make the custom profile feature work, so maybe it doesn't. So, try this app, it's free to try.
  • Had for years, some issues

    By Fgyjgfdhccfv (Pcmac user)

This tuner has been great over the years, but lately, maybe it's the iPhone 7, it's been harder to use. I bought the "big one" and it's so easy to tune, albeit probably 5 times the price. This is a good tuner, I've just had problems with it as of late. Hate to say it.
  • Great app for my piano tuning business...

    By Maestro Mitch (Pcmac user)

I've been tuning for 20 years now, for the past 10 or so years I've used Tune Lab 97. I've resisted upgrading to the latest version because every time I had 300 bucks I had something better to do with it. I tried the light version of this app and knew I wanted to spend a measly five bucks for this app that replaces most of the features that the TuneLab program did. It is a tremendous app that is suited for fine tuning wind, organs and especially pianos. A technician with some experience can tune an instrument in about an hour. That way you can schedule another tuning in a day and make a little more cash. Now if you've never tuned your piano and think this will save you a visit from your piano tuner, think again. there's a lot more than just getting the strings in tune. Even with this app it will take you hours to get your piano sounding right, you'll be happier if you just pay your tech and sip a beverage while he works. Again great app... But if you are a piano tech wanting to put this on your iPad, be sure to get a good mic to go with it. The iPad has a problem with hearing the lowest and highest notes on the iPad...
  • Wonderful

    By Redbullluvr (Pcmac user)

I use this for organ tuning all the time. The resolution is wonderful and accuracy is dead on. A few things I would recommend to developers: One. The ability to reduce the input volume. Sometimes I have to back the tuner way far away from the pipes I am tuning in order for it to pick up. Two. More presets for temperaments, such as Kellner or some of the more well-known unequal temperaments. Three. The ability to enter in new temperaments by entering in the variation data instead of having to record the temperament in. Four. The ability to tune mutation stops without having to set manually the note on the dial. This could be achieved as a setting whereby you would enter in the mutation and the tuner would automatically put you on the right note on the keyboard instead of tracking to the note that mutation is closest to. All-around a great product and I will continue to recommend it to all my Organ colleagues.
