Software Features and Description

1. Sending the SMS message must be confirmed on the iPhone due to security reasons - this confirmation is a feature of the Apple developing environment, in which the "SMS client" application is written.

2. SMS sender and SMS client use a standard Apple Bonjour service for discovering devices on the network, applications use an arbitrary port number between 49152 and 65535 (as any other third-party application).

3. If SMS sender is not able to find your iPhone on the network, it seems that ports 49152-65535 are blocked in your computer or in the router.

4. Your iPhone and the Mac computer must be on the same network.

5. The Wi-Fi connection is used, SMS client for iPhone is required (available free on the App Store).

6. Both your Mac and your iPhone must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

7. Then, restart the router, the computer and relaunch the application on your iPhone.

8. Bonjour service (Multicast DNS) MUST be ENABLED in your router.

9. Type SMS messages on your Mac and send them via your iPhone.

10. It is not possible to send a message without such a confirmation.

Top Pcmac Reviews

  • If you need to get the text from your computer to the iPhone, this app will work.

    By Snyfuss Redynstruc (Pcmac user)

Most of the reviewers are pretty critical because they seem to want their Mac to act as a "dumb terminal" for the iPhone and allow them to, essentially, operate the iPhone from the Mac. This app will not do that. Nor will it seemlessly send texts to your phone to be sent to another phone and, then, have the other person's responses to your texts show up on your iMac. What it will do, however, is allow you to type long, long texts on your iMac, send them to the the app app on your iPhone, and then hit send on the iPhone to get the message out. For me, this was worth the $1.99 because (a) I had an extremely long message to send and (b) I wanted to insure that the response came back to my iPhone rather than to some other "internet type of the app service which allows you to send texts from your computer." I would hope that future versions of this app would incorporate some of what the critics are asking for. Even without those added features, this app is very useful.
  • Does what the app description says

    By J_Ekis (Pcmac user)

All these reviews knocking this app for not doing something it never claimed to do in the first place. The description is clear that it sends messages through the iPhone, not through the mac itself. Read the description of an app before buying, folks. That's why it's there. Anyway, I gave it four stars, not because it is spectacularly useful, but because it performs as advertised. However, for typing into your iPhone from your Mac, I'd recommend something much more flexible and useful, Like type2phone or iKeyboard. These apps turn your mac into a Bluetooth keyboard for your phone. You can type into any app, not just text messages. Both are found here in the Mac App Store, and don't require a companion iPhone app. They are more expensive than this app, so if you only need to type text messages this way, it gets the job done nicely.
  • Lesson Learned $1.99 Lost

    By TNiPhoneGuru (Pcmac user)

Seriosuly should have known better here having read the iPhone SDK. Sending an the app without touching the phone would HAVE to violate some of the private API restrictions. Completely misleading app description on both sides of things. the app isn't for long messages so the need for large keyboard is nill. It's for SHORT ones, hence Short Message Service. What I had hoped for like it looks like everyone did, was for the ability to NOT have to touch my iPhone to send the app messages as this can be a pain if it's across the room, charging on the Powermat, etc. Never again will I purchase an application without reading most of the reviews. App gets a single star due to this being the lowest possible rating. If they can somehow get the app to send the the app without my touching the phone INSTANT 5 Stars. Both apps have decent build quality. This agregious misrepresentation however is completely ridiculous. Emailing Apple shortly to determine resolution for being misled.
  • Don't Waste Your Money

    By iTab IL (Pcmac user)

This app DOES NOT allow you to send text messages from your desktop! It simply transfers written text to your iPhone from where you ultimately have to transmit the the app message. What's the point?!! If you must send the message from your iPhone anyway why not just type it on the phone in the first place? This doesn't save a step, it adds one. I thought this app was going to be very innovative and useful allowing me the functionality of sending text messages right from my workplace computer, instead it was a HUGE disapointment!
