What is Shimmer AUv3 Audio Plugin?

The app is an AUv3 compatible effect that creates a shimmer effect by combining digital delay, pitch shifter, rich long reverb, filtering, beat synced modulation options, harmonic exciter, and sustain section. It has a modern graphical interface, presets, stereo meters, and 7 pre-configured touch pads. The app allows complete parameter automation and auto synced modulation to master tempo.

Software Features and Description

1. The effect also features many beat synced modulation options with various modes of operation such as your basic pans and vibrato effects but including sweeps and morphing harmonies.

2. Finally to give the effect some real 'shimmer' we've added a harmonic exciter and a sustain section which samples and holds on to the sound to pull out and emphesise the harmonics.

3. The effect presents all the most frequently used controls to the user in a single screen, but each effect has it's own distinct set of controls and a total of 7 pre-configured touch pads allowing easy recording of controller data.

4. The effect combines a digital delay and pitch shifter to create multiple harmonies before entering a rich long reverb with controllable filtering.

5. The resulting effect is a monsterously huge sound adding a spacious atmospheric quality to any lead instrument or vocal.

6. This is an AUv3 compatible effect which must be used as plugin with your favourite DAW such as Cubasis, Meteor, Auria or GarageBand.

7. This shimmer effect is a combination of effects that creates an etherial wall of sound.

8. This plugin allows complete parameter automation and auto synced modulation to master tempo.

9. It supports a modern graphical interface and presets with stereo meters for monitoring signal levels.

10. This is one of a suite of AUv3 compatible plugins which will also soon be available from 4Pockets.

Pros:

- Adds depth and shimmer to piano and sounds awesome

- Great UI design

- FX sounds pretty good

Cons:

- Glitches on Garageband IOS and effect gets deleted from all instruments after an error message pops up

- UI is heavy on resources and causes crackling with just a few apps running

- No way to save settings within the ShimmerFX app, only through the DAW, making it difficult to have a preset list for use between apps.

  • App is great, but...

    By Poopypower (Pcmac user)

Probably my favorite app right now, but it keeps glitching on Garageband IOS, and the effect keeps gets deleted from all the instruments after a error message pops up. Easy to get the effect back though by tapping power button off and on in the plug-in section where the app is at.
  • Made of stars

Doubt thou the stars are fire, Doubt that the sun doth move. Doubt truth to be a liar, But never doubt I love this plug-in.
  • Awesome

    By uncannyzebra (Pcmac user)

Using to add depth and the app to piano and sounds awesome.
  • Looks and sounds good. No Save!

    By GadgetMojo (Pcmac user)

It looks great, and the fx sounds pretty good too. But UI is a bit heavy on resources makes this iPad (Pro 10”) crackle with just a few apps running. But the 2-stars rating is because this *AUv3* plugin doesn’t have a way to save settings. You can save settings using your DAW, but not inside ShimmerFX so you can’t have a preset list that you would use between apps. There’s a preset list, but it’s only for the ones that come with the app - can’t save yours there. So it’s like a “demo” preset list. Edit2: Just to clarify, the actual fx when active is not that heavy on resources (Zeeon is more heavy, for example). But the UI, (when you open the plugin to tweak controls) is very heavy, one of the heaviest I’ve tried so far, in fact. Similar to RE-1 (which also got a pretty heavy UI when opened). Edit: Thanks for the reply and considering adding the presets! On a PC where people usually use just one DAW (Cubase for me) it wouldn’t matter, because it just does everything. But on iOS there are several DAWs/tools each having sought-after features, yet falling short (or not designed for) others. The beauty of AUv3 is that it can just be seamlessly used between them, whether you want to re-use some preset in new project, or carry over existing project from one place to another. For an actual example, though I’m not much into DAW-less approach, and prefer to always be able to hit Rec and have midi + audio tracks readily available, I just can’t resist using ApeMatrix which is an amazing tool for coming up with sound ideas. You can complete the whole project in it (and many people do this in fact), just like in AUM or AudioBus, but these tools don’t have multitracking and can only record (output) audio files. So I often start projects in ApeMatrix+Xequence, come up with sound/song ideas quickly and then carry them over to Cubasis or Beatmaker (and soon NanoStudio, once it gets audio capability) for further completion. And for this to work, it requires internal presets for each instrument and fx.
