Software Features and Description

1. With StompBox you get the best of both worlds, a rack of professional sounding stereo effects (with far more control than simple foot pedals) and a foot controller to access a tuner and all your patches.

2. The Virtual Foot controller gives instant access to all patch parameters and amp settings, with the ability to enable and disable individual effects at the touch of a button.

3. StompBox allows various amp EQ's both via the PreAmp and additional effects, but the important thing for accoutic guitar users is that these EQ's can be completely bypassed.

4. StompBox turns your iPad into a flexible Multi FX Processor, it includes 17 effects plus a 4 Track Recorder and Media Player.

5. StompBox supports AudioBus and Apple’s Inter-App Audio making an excellent general purpose audio processing tool for all musicians, not just guitarists.

6. Once you have built up a library of patches, you can use the virtual foot controller to quickly and easily move between patches.

7. This is where StompBox really shines, giving a faithful reproduction of accoustic instruments.

8. If you want to modify an effect parameter, simply scroll the effect rack into view and make your changes.

9. Many guitar apps use a form of Amp Modelling which in most cases is just fancy form of EQ.

10. This also means StompBox can be used on keyboards too.

11. This is great for electric guitars, but not so good for accoustic.

  • Great potential and features! But output clips/distorts with a keyboard.

By Light Interactive Media (Pcmac user)

I wanted to love this app for playing live (since there are actually very few music apps geared toward the needs of using an iPad live). But with my Yamaha s90 ES plugged in an iRig and an out to my M-Audio AV40s (using the correct stereo-mono cables!), I get a bad clipping distortion when I use any kind of velocity on the S90. This happens at even low volumes set on iPad, this app, etc. When I turn off all effects, it is almost gone. iShred Live does not do this, so I know it's with this app. Another gripe I have is that one of the absolute essentials when playing live with a band is the need for TAP TEMPO. I'm so happy this app has this, but could we get a button to hit a bit bigger than the tip of our finger? Also would like to swap the volume pedal (or have an additional...) for an actual good-sized volume slider. When I'm playing the Yamaha on top of a Hammond with a Grand next to me, I can't afford to be so precise when going to my iPad for stuff - got to be on the fly, easy to read, easy to hit, etc. It would be really great for us to be able to redesign the interface to fit our needs - use less pedals for larger size, etc. I appreciate the time and effort that went into this app - it's got some GREAT effects racks. I hope to make this app my main effects for keys some day, because the other things it does, it does really well.
  • App has amazing potential, but still has issues...

    By spleenomatic (Pcmac user)

This app looks good, and seems to have immense potential to live up to being a major player. I would really like to use this app more than I do/can. But I have a lot of issues with it crashing suddenly. I have tried all the suggestions in the included help files, I know I have an iPad capable of running it, but unfortunately I still seem to reach a certain point and it just disappears suddenly. I love the stereo effects. The distortion presets are spot on and do not need much tweekage, in my opinion. And best of all the whole app is set up just like it should be. It is a really exciting rack for any serious guitarist. The persons who thought this through have my compliments and respect. But then, there is the sudden crashing issue. If this could be corrected, well, I would be using this app almost exclusively. I have increased my rating from my last review in hopes that the developers will notice and perhaps address some of the issues mentioned. It's frustrating, I know. But I feel this app is really worthy of another look.
  • Not perfect (yet) but incredible

By Robman84 in the US (Pcmac user)

I could give this 4 stars for its current flaws (latency is audible - no worse than some, not as good as the best) but that would miss the point that this is a fantastic app. Compared to the other top-end apps this represents excellent value for money, with no extra outlay needed for the rest of the effects. The parameters are comprehensive for tweaking and the preset system is leaps ahead. The best feature I think is the dual interfaces (one portrait for tweaking, one landscape for playing) but the built-in 4 track recorder is pretty cool too. I agree with the comments about its gain too, but don't agree that this is an inferior app to the others. As a "wish" I'd like to see a built-in web browser for accessing the Ultimate Guitar tab website, maybe as a floating resizable panel. I own this, Amplitube and Ampkit (as well as a few cheaper ones) and this is the one I will be using on my iPad. Amplitube will stay as my choice on the iPhone.
  • One of my go to apps

    By John-3:16 (Pcmac user)

This perhaps my go to app now. My top three for guitar so far are. Ampkit Jamup this app I can't say which I like more, each is good. But so far it's been ampkit. Audiobus ( a must have above all others) though. Then , audiobus mic in from my appogee to this app or ampkit then into cubasis. That's what my main set up is now, I pipe it to my Dr. Z amp and it does sound good.. Now don't misunderstand me. It is nowhere near my pedal board setup in sound, but for a very quick mobile set up it does very well, I can record or loop, or just play out to my amp. Exit out and load Guitartapp and there ya go. If you don't have the above apps, I highly suggest you get them. I do love ampkit and jamup but I find myself using this this app now more and more. I don't need different amp emulations, just the pedals on this and I can tweak the amp here to sound good if need be. Get a ipad mount for your mic stand and that's easy fast fun jams. Not great sounding like over $1,000 in pedals and over 2k in amp cost but it is good, very good and easy, fast set up. And cubasis can record or play back what you want into your system. Drums, bass etc... So remember... Audiobus this app / ampkit Cubasis ( if you can afford it, if not get GarageBand or meteor recorder) Apogee into ipad, the ipad out to amp, monitor or sound system Then get ampkit and jamup, both have quantities I like... But if you get this app you may (like I did ) find you use the others less.
