  • UniFi Protect

    By cs-mark (Pcmac user)

this app allows me to monitor all the entrances to my house while I’m away. Setup After downloading the app, I was able to login with my Ubiquiti cloud account. It pulled up all my existing cameras and settings. I was then able to add one new camera via the app. (Note: if the cameras are not on the same subnet as your controller, you will need to go to the web interface of the camera and point to where the controller is.) Management For some reason, none of the camera settings I make on the app will save. Enable HDR, nope. Rename camera, nope. Change motion zones, nope. I currently have to go on the controller via Safari to make changes. I have not tried to add users, so I don’t know if this area works or not. Viewing Being able to live view or look through history is great. I can see multiple cameras at once or click on one to get a full screen view. This is where having a fast upload connection at home helps. Other notes This app will crash occasionally when going to full screen or switching between cameras. Alerts/Notifications I get notifications when motion is detected or camera goes offline. Wish List Apple Watch notifications. Apple TV app for viewing live feeds. Overall This app allows me to monitor my home while away. However, until I can manage my cameras and the app crashing is fixed, this app doesn’t offer much benefit to me. I will adjust my review as new versions are released. Tested on: iPhone X, iOS 12.3.1
  • Blown Away

    By M. Beach (Pcmac user)

I recently upgraded from the app Video. I’ve read reviews the last few months waiting for the IOS app to develop further. I am absolutely blown away. This app and overall product lineup makes an outstanding home surveillance system. It is so well thought out. The ability to so quickly scroll through video makes it so much more useful than any video surveillance system I have used, including much more expensive systems installed by professional integrators. Thank you to the Ubiquity folks for creating a great product line and to the app coders for creating such an elegant app! The combination of home network and surveillance management is just awesome.
  • Notifications, user permissions, basic features

    By MarkMichael (Pcmac user)

I have been going back and forth with tech support for almost a month trying to get any information as to when this will be in any way useable. At the moment I get constant notifications of activity without the ability to change what notifications I get and when. After almost three weeks a new update was dropped with timed notifications… of never and always. That’s it!? 1. Needs user permissions to allow different users to get different notifications. 2. Needs timed notifications for each specific hot zone. 3. Needs image in push notification. Preferably animated gif. 4. Needs settings for backup and encryption. 5. Needs easy download for full quality that doesn’t crash or bug out only giving 10 seconds of footage. These things should be relatively easy for their developers to do, most of them were done already on the old software. It just seems like there isn’t much interest from Ubiquiti to do anything with this software. They say they are a “hardware company” which is why they give their software for free, but great hardware is useless with substandard software.
  • Needs some work - also this is not for non-tech folks

    By AlexWilsonsBlog (Pcmac user)

If you are non-technical you should not be buying Ubiquiti. Go to a big box or club warehouse and buy whatever consumer grade stuff they offer. You won’t get any real support that you can understand, the product will be pulled from market soon, and you won’t be able to replace broken items. Ubiquiti is designed for those with a technical background. Those that can support themselves or ask intelligent questions in public forums. The products are targeted at professionals for installs, not the average home user. All that said, this product needs some work but most of the older reviews are no longer relevant as the Mossi g features were addressed. Technically this is still beta product to a degree. I have 11 cams and 6 APs running on 5 switches, CK2+, and a USG Pro 4. Works great. Then again, I am the app and AirMax certified and have 10 years in wireless and with their products.
