  • The King Lives Again!

    By Guycoolio (Pcmac user)

Long live the King! the app was my first DAW on iOS. It was great and set the bar for creating professional sounding tracks on iOS. I reluctantly had to move on over the past 5 years to other great music programs like Cubasis, Gadget, BM3, AUM, etc. However, I was pleased to learn about this app which has raised the bar once again in my opinion for the creation of high quality professional tracks on iOS. Workflow remains fantastic for getting quick ideas out and for generating entire songs. The sound of “Slate” and “Obsidian” are exceptional. Obsidian in particular competes strongly against high end desktop software synths and/or serious hardware synths with regard to sound, routing, and overall flexibility. The mixer and effects are equally terrific. In fact, the entire app feels stable, CPU friendly, and provides an overall enjoyable user experience. As always, there are some additional wish lists of features (e.g., audio tracks is coming) but the current program is simply a cut above the rest of the pack. Kudos and thanks again to the developer for dusting off the cobwebs of this awesome classic.
  • My previous review disappeared... try again! UPDATED

So now it works on my phone. Nice to be able to have NS2 available at all times. I do look forward to audio tracks and then it’ll be perfect! PS - Go to the the app forums with questions. No point in asking them in a review. I’ve used most iOS “DAW’s”. I have most of the major music apps. Since NS2 came out its pretty much all I use. Best workflow, light on CPU and sounds great. Sometimes I use AU’s and then find myself removing them and just using Obsidian, Slate and built-in fx. Why? Because in a mix any slight difference between the AU’s and the factory devices is minimal and not worth the trouble. My goal is mainly to make music and I can do that with NS2 alone. No audio tracks doesn’t stop me and AUfx automation is not necessary when I can get the majority of fx with the built-in devices. Approach it with an open mind and you’ll find you can do a lot.
  • Unbelievable. Now for iPhone! Endless screaming!!!

By Solomon of Kleptolia (Pcmac user)

Played with this this thing for 15 minutes and I can tell you: it’s a monster. The original was probably my favorite music app, so I’m a bit biased, but even as a guy who has bought Korg Gadget and all of its add-ons (except for Lisbon), I can see that this app already has nearly all of Gadget’s functionality, and audio tracks are on the way. Even now, the app can handle samples of up to 2 HOURS LONG. I’m not super-concerned about audio tracks, that being the case. As for the interface, it’s more complex than the original, but that’s due to the INSANE number of features it possesses. Considering the number of controls you have on each page, this thing is practically a magnum opus of streamlining design. BM3 won’t be able to keep up. The dev is one man, working alone, and he’s made a DAW killer on iOS. Give him your money!
  • Absolutely brilliant with more on the way

    By SeqJ (Pcmac user)

Full disclosure: I was an avid the app 1 user back in the days of the original ipad, when it was basically the only reasonable game in town insofar as sequencing on a tablet. But I needed midi out to my hardware in a serious way. I dreamed of a time when the app would be able to do that. Fast forward a number of years and I have tried every ios music production app out there looking for my “perfect solution” for laying down new tracks and sequencing my gear. I get bummed out by hindrance to creative flow. And there’s lots of that out there, in terms of too limited apps that do not do enough, sound bad, or have sad/slightly irritating user interfaces. Enter this app. The slick, well designed touch sequencer of my dreams with the necessary synth hosting, midi capabilities, a built in high caliber softsynth and drum sampler, tons of good effects, and tight tools, compressors and EQ and swing etc. Excellent sound pathway, crisp and responsive. Fast, well designed, it flows, I LOVE IT. this app is my go to and will be for the foreseeable future. Missing but needed: - Midi sync to external clock for the love of pete. I have a hardware master clock I run to everything. (IMO Dont let an ipad app be your master clock! It will jitter you.)
