★ ★ ★ DRC Overview

What is DRC? DRC is a virtual analog polyphonic synthesizer that recreates the sound of an analog synthesizer with a minimal but powerful set of parameters. It features cloud preset sync technology, allowing users to sync patches across devices effortlessly. The app is AUv3 compatible and has up to 8 voices, two main oscillators, one sub-oscillator, and one noise source. It also has a 4 pole self-resonant low pass Ladder Filter, 2 pole multi-mode filter, 2 LFOs, 2 analog modeled envelope generators, stereo tape delay, lush stereo reverb, true stereo analog modeled multi-mode chorus, arpeggiator, and sync to external MIDI clock.

Software Features and Description

1. DRC is powerful virtual analog polyphonic synthesizer that recreates the characteristic sound of an analog synthesizer proving a minimal but powerful set of parameters, for limited but incredible sonic capabilities.

2. Before to write this review I read the manual (you must) and tested every parameter until understand perfectly how every one respond to the final output sound.

3. The mixer is great for tweaking the balance between the sound sources to fine tune your sound.

4. For me the filter is the secret in this app to get a differentiated sound compared to your other synth app's.

5. I have to tell you the presets do not show how powerful this synth can be, you have to tweak by yourself every filter, modifier and fx's.

6. The sound sources, fx, filters and modulations are all laid out to be very easily accessible.

7. It is rather difficult to explain, but there is something within not only the interface, but in the nature of the sounds that this thing produces that shows their passion.

8. With this powerful feature, you to start the creative process on one device and continue on another, seamlessly.

9. This synthesizer is a patch designer's tool, not a preset player.

10. "Easy to lose yourself in sound design.

11. Patch creation seems to be the focus, and UI is perfect for flipping back and forth while working out new presets.

  • Accidental Purchase. Decent synth but misleading.

    By austiniodtx (Pcmac user)

I recently downloaded this app and after playing with it for only a few minutes, I was prompted to pay $8.99 because apparently this “free” app is really a trial. Because my finger was rested on the home button when this happened, payment went through without me having a chance to stop it. Ugh. I think having the ability to create sounds on the go and have them easily loadable into the desktop VST is an incredible feature, but the VST costs an extra $79! Not a fan at all of this business model, because if I really enjoyed the synth I would gladly pay more than $8.99 to get it on all platforms. Now, the synth itself is a standard subtractive synth. There are some cool presets that show off what the synth can do, and I really like the chord keyboard function. The oscillators sound good and the effects are decent, especially the tape delay which is a lot of fun to play with. I also own Zeeon on ios and prefer the sound of its filters and modulation options, as well as it having a sequencer. Although it was an accidental purchase I still can see myself coming back to this app. The GUI is slick and its fun to play with, but I feel like I’m missing out on its best feature which is cross-platform patches. I already own a bunch of softsynths and hardware that I use in Ableton, so I won’t be shelling out another $79 for this anytime soon.
  • Still trying it out. Just bought it

    By Sjanqia Flabberbottom (Pcmac user)

Haven't integrated it yet. So far so good. This app sounds wonderful. The controls are appropriate and numerous. The layout is great. I have never used iOS in earnest for live as I don’t have a CCK so the hold option is very helpful mixed with the multiple oscillator settings. More experimenting for me and less whining from the “free/ time limit scammers”. Really you can’t figure it out in that amount of time? What are you on the fence about? Imagine buying a hardware device that did what this does and then imagine the cost. A boutique synth of this sonic quality and control is not comparable in price. You would prefer 28 minuets? 45? When will you reach that final decision as to whether it’s worth the money? Smdh
  • Love DRC's Philosophy!

    By swancakes (Pcmac user)

These guys are smart and understand what pro and semi-pro musicians want. this app fills a void in the synth app market in being the first elegantly portable sound engine. I can transfer a preset that I create on the iPad to my iPhone and (I believe) can also load it up in the VST/AU version (although I have yet to purchase that). Sounds should not be restricted to a machine and Imaginando gets that. Not to mention, this app has a unique character and can sound very gritty and analog if you know what you're doing. My only wish is for this app to be usable as an iOS audio unit (AU3) -- and hopefully one day they will consider this.
  • Maybe increase trial/play “time to $$buy$$” message

    By VisyEng (Pcmac user)

I think it’s great that you offer a trial period allowing potential customers to test drive your product. In lieu of offering a free & minimally functioning app loaded with distracting advertisements. I would consider providing a little more time before the “aren’t you loving our app?” pop-ups start. I think you do have a well laid out, nice sounding product. Why not let people experience it & become more familiar with it’s sounds and features. If you are making a good product I will buy. I am sure I could uninstall and use it some more. I stopped and tried it because the sound caught my ears. But started to lose interest as the interruptions kept popping up wile I was trying to figure out the synth.
