  • Best Alternative to MP3 Gain on a Mac

    By Miss Lan (Pcmac user)

The previous reviewer gave this app one star for crashing. Well, it will crash if you try to load a big folder. A minor hassle, but if you keep it to doing 50 tracks or less at a time, you should be fine. If you do that, you will find this program works very well as I have. Actually, this is the best I have found to MP3 Gain that I loved when I had a Windows machine. To make sure it was adjusting as it said it was, I toook the adjusted tracks from this program and put it on a flash drive. I then put the flash on my old Windows machine and loaded them in MP3 Gain and they were read at the right dB volume and that program did not need any adjustment. The only two things making this not a 5 star in my opinion are: 1) Would like to see it be able to process more than 50 files loaded without locking up 2) Having a choice of having the adjusted file save to the folder it came from instaed of selecting a specific folder Regardless, this is the best Normalizer in the app store and I have tried them all...
  • Easy to use, results are excellent, no crashes

    By oregonpete (Pcmac user)

The this app app does a great job of batch processing songs to equalize volume. The results are excellent, even on a mix of very different types of music with very different volume profiles, e.g. classical, folk, pop, ethnic, rock. I did not experience any crashes processing folders of music as large as 200 items. I used it to normalize volume on music to be put on mp3 CDs and an mp3 SD Card for use in our vehicles, and it was perfect for this purpose. It is true, as one reviewer complained, that it would be very difficult to use it to normalize your entire iTunes library, but you don’t need to do that. I have found that setting iTunes/Preferences/Playback/SoundCheck accomplishes the app normalization quite well. There are similar SoundCheck settings on the iPhone, iPad and iPod.
  • Good But….

    By Captn James (Pcmac user)

Recently purchased the app to average out about 500 songs to similar volumes, the app is very simple to use and does work very well… if it doesn’t crash. I’ve tried different ideas of drag and drop 100 songs. About half way through, it abruptly closes. I tried dropping 50 songs, 30 songs, down to 5. It will work on 5 at a time for a while, then just crash. I’ve tried drag and drop, cut and paste, adjusting the DB number etc. I like the app and when it works it’s very simple and good so I’m going to keep trying. One song at a time for 550 songs for a IPOD is gonna take a very long time. I’m using MacBook pro by the way. Maybe I should try it via Windows?
  • Mp3Gain for the Mac

    By brews1998 (Pcmac user)

I've been waiting for a program like this for OS X. It works like Mp3Gain on Windows. I like the drag and drop interface. It supports both m4a and mp3 formats and more. If you want to normalize the volume of your music collection then this is a good app for that. One thing that needs to be fix or change on the next update though is for the "target db slider" to remember the last setting you put it on. It always goes back to the default value of 89db when you reopen the program. That's why I'm only giving it 4 stars. I like the app and I hope updates are coming.
