What is Das Erste? The new Das Erste App provides easy access to favorite shows and videos. It features a program calendar that combines program previews, live streaming, and videos of past shows. The app also offers editorial highlights and personal recommendations that are organized and displayed on the homepage. Users can quickly find videos through the program calendar, an A-Z list, and categories such as documentaries, films, crime shows, news, children's programs, advice, and culture and knowledge. The app also includes a new section called "My First," which offers a comprehensive service for users to personalize their favorite categories, subscribe to video series, create and manage personal playlists, and save keywords as favorites. The app supports Airplay and provides subtitles for live streams and most videos, as well as audio descriptions for selected films and documentaries.

Auslandsdeutsche understand the value of the ZDF Mediathek app. Finally, this app released theirs. ZDF and this app are the two public broadcasting channels in Germany and the largest producer of original German content. Watched the epic soap Lindenstrasse today with the family. The picture quality is noticeable better than on the old WDR podcasts. With Airplay, it is like watching TV back in Germany. It helps my kids to learn the language and myself to maintain it. And the best, it is free!

What a horrific app.

For the amount of money I am forced to pay every year to the German government, I don’t see any value in this piece of crap, outdated app. AirPlay is a pipe dream; works on some of my devices, not on others. And often drops the signal unless I leave the screen on. The design is absolutely outdated, looks like an app from 2009, and acts like it too. Shame on this app.
