  • Good, but needs more work

    By WayneMerritt (Pcmac user)

I was very excited to hear that Yellow Cab had an app out. When I first installed and started using this app, I found it very clunky. There didn't seem to be a way to easily book a trip. It took several tries and finally I discovered that I could go into favorites and book a ride. I had trouble when entering my destination via a Bluetooth keyboard. For whatever reason, the app kept getting my entries wrong each time and I tried around 8 times. Also, it would be helpful if someone could choose from a list of favorites to set the starting/destination points, instead of having to enter the destination each time. Email notification of a trip is nice, but email is not always handy. I think the app could be made to alert someone through either text messaging (especially since you've already filled in your mobile number), and/or through push notifications. Finally, I am a blind iPhone user that uses the built in screen reader called VoiceOver to use my iPhone. I found 2 different spots in the app that did not speak when my cursor/focus moved over them, such as the remarks field and the any vehicle field. I have not yet paid via card so I don't know how accessible this is with VoiceOver. All in all, the app gets an average rating due to the potential but also the work needed to make it competitive. I hope to be able to use this app for regular cab prescheduled booking and ditch the mobile web form I fill out now.
  • Don't expect this to work - it doesn't.

    By Andy-RC (Pcmac user)

Now that Uber, Lyft and other services are no longer available in Austin, you would expect other services to fill in the gap. This is not the case. The reality is that without these services you will be stranded in different parts of town without the ability to book a taxi and the only option is to hail a random taxi in the street. Good luck with that. This "taxi" application simply doesn't work and you'll be walking across town now that there are no taxis and no uber service. That's the last conference I'll be spending here. What a disaster. If you use this app one of two things will happen: either your taxi will supposedly appear within 3 minutes and then cancel or a 3 minute arrival time will turn into 20 minutes. End result: no taxi. This is the kind of app that should be banned from the App Store. Now they have stolen all my details but I have no benefits.
  • Piece of shhh

    By Jazcubs (Pcmac user)

What's the point of this app? Because when you book a cab, it doesn't work. The status of my cab that I requested two nights ago says not picked up. I booked it 2 hours beforehand and waited an hr after my requested time before I finally called yellow cab personally. They said to call them if a cab doesn't come in a half hour and that they couldn't give any ETA's. Ummm what? It's already 75 minutes late and you want me to wait another 30 minutes? No. We found a redbox cab driver and took off. Didn't cancel my requested cab because I was curious to see what time they would show up and call.. Well, they never did. If you can't handle the high volume of a city then don't be here!! Austin needs UBER. Or just a functioning cab company.
  • Bad Usability

    By Nik Bhattacharya (Pcmac user)

It took me 30 minutes to figure out and make my first reservation on Hail A Cab. C'mon guys, hire a UX designer, or atleast spend some time watching a newbie fumble around the app to make a reservation. And I am an app developer so I am probably one of your most experienced users. The only reason I stuck so long with making the reservation I because the calls were taking even longer. No doubt this is a useful tool. But please respect your clients and put more thought into the app design. I could not even find Austin airport easily. I had no idea that it is on Presidential boulevard. Never even heard of that before in Austin. But it's technically true that the International airport in Austin (the only International airport in the city) is on that road. But seriously? You expect us to know the name of the road?? Please improve this potentially useful app.
