Software Features and Description

1. Turn 'BackgroudnAudio' on to hear sound using a CoreMIDI sound generator app running in the background.

2. Open a sound generator app and enable CoreMIDI and the background mode.

3. You can also play an app running on the other iOS devices and/or Macs using a MIDI Network Session.

4. If your iPhone is not available in the "Directory" list, click "+" button to create a new device.

5. Click "+" button at the "Sessions" area to create a new session, and click the checkbox to enable the session.

6. For example, with ThumbJam, turn "Use CoreMidi" and "Active in Background" on in MIDI Control preference.

7. MIDIWriter is a simple app that transmits MIDI note messages by hitting keys on a keyboard.

8. Open "Audio MIDI Setup" on Mac and open "Network" in the MIDI Studio window.

Install MIDIWriter app on your Windows in 4 steps below:


  1. Download an Android emulator for PC:

    • Once MIDIWriter is downloaded inside the emulator, locate/click the "All apps" icon to access a page containing all your installed applications including MIDIWriter.

    This is a great idea, and it could be very useful if it worked better and was recognized by more music apps, like AUM. My MIDI keyboard has a limited number of buttons and other controls on it, so this would be useful for sending program change and other MIDI messages. The description says the last support for this thing was 4 years ago. Another reviewer said it looks like it was put up here and then forgotten; I agree. It’s too bad; this app is a good idea that didn’t pan out...

    Very little documentation, no way to adjust settings, holding a key sends a rapid signal instead of a sustain. I tried this with animoog, and the number keys gave me middle notes while EVERY OTHER KEY was at the high end of the scale — so there really isn't much range for this. Fancy idea, but not really executed well. Hope they develop it more.
