Top Pcmac Reviews

  • Updates ruined the app years ago

    By Cmlfl (Pcmac user)

I don’t know how this app has ever rec’d a 4.6 rating when myself & most of the reviewers find it totally useless. I think they must be stacking the deck when I read the positive reviews. Someone gave it a 5 star because they are looking forward to using it?!?! When my library first introduced the app as a way to borrow magazines, I was thrilled. And for the first year it worked well. Magazines downloaded in a reasonable time & without difficulty on to my iPad mini. Then the developers started adding updates. Big, big mistake! Ever since the first update, this app has been nothing but balky. I can check out a magazine but downloading to read offline is a nightmare. The downloads constantly hang up. Sometimes it takes me days to get one magazine downloaded. It will start & then switch to pending & stay there. I have been in touch with my library who referred me to the developer. A couple of emails between myself & the developer did not solve the problem. Their final response was “We are having problems with some magazine titles ( I find it with every title) & are working to solve the problem.” That was a year ago. Updating the app makes no changes at all to the magazine screen. Considering the problems with the magazines, I haven’t even attempted to borrow a book. As wonderful as this app could have been, libraries are wasting their money on it. Developers please hire someone who knows how to fix this!
  • Amazingly buggy and very hard to use sometimes

    By awesome-on (Pcmac user)

This is one of the buggiest apps I’ve ever used. So much so that it’s almost unusable sometimes. The play/pause doesn’t work half the time. Like the book will be playing and I’ll hit pause and it doesn’t even respond and just keeps playing. I though this had to do with Bluetooth lag but the same problem persists even when I have headphones in. I mainly listen to it in the car while I drive. It’ll reach the end of a book chapter and just stop playing. I’ll open the app and it’ll have stopped at a Random point in the chapter timeline not at all where it finished. If I hit play again it’ll be minutes behind. Sometimes when I hit pause before I turn off my car, it’ll randomly continue playing without my knowledge after it disconnects from Bluetooth. In fact that happened to me a few hours before wrote this review. Earlier when this happened I randomly looked at my phone and it had played through multiple chapters of the current book. Then I had no idea where I actually left off and spent 10 min rewinding and trying to find out where I left off. Not happy at all with this app. Super annoying to use. Lots of room for improvement. If it wasn’t free through my library I would’ve ditched it long long ago
  • Utter Garbage

    By ATKBE (Pcmac user)

Completely dysfunctional. My library previously offered periodicals through Zinio and it was clunky but worked. They recently switched to this flashy but ineffective app and I’m frustrated and annoyed by nearly every aspect of it. It listed 17 pages of every magazine I ever downloaded in an unorganized mess. (Zinio grouped by year and month making it easy to delete old issues.) Where I could once download, read, and easily delete a magazine - this app has you “return” issues and each action to do that takes forever. With 17 pages of archived magazines, it would take me a month to clear out the backlog. No idea why my old deleted issues are even on here. Preparing for an upcoming trip, I used this app to download the newest issues. Most downloaded, a few just sat at 0% and wouldn’t download. After most were downloaded, I disconnected from wifi to see how I could read the downloaded magazines. Nada - couldn’t access a single issue. When I reconnected to wifi, all downloads were....now not downloaded. I have never had an app so utterly dysfunctional and useless and wonder why my library made the horrible decision to switch to this useless and poorly executed app. Yeah, it’s free -and not worth it.
  • Unrecognized popular author/books???

    By marinoabn (Pcmac user)

Maybe I just don’t understand how to work this app but I was very e cited to be able to “check” books out from my library without having to drive to the library. However, the book options I’ve seen so far are very limited. I searched by title and author and each one I’ve tried looking for says it’s not recognized (popular authors too like Rick Riordan). I was limited to the few random books that were listed under the unrecognized titles and authors. I downloaded/checked one out from the small list of about five or six. Now I’m reading it. Every time I finished a chapter the app goes into think mode to download the next chapter. I usually have to completely close it out and open it back up so the new chapter will download. If I don’t close it down quick enough, it skips about twenty “pages” ahead and now I have to s roll back to the end of the previous chapter to find my page. Very frustrating. I would’ve given it one star but the book is decent and keeps me entertained while I’m actually able to read it. I hope these glitches get fixed quickly.
