Software Features and Description

1. ArtMail, uses a brush style similar to a fountain pen, delivering calligraphic quality pen strokes. It has a built-in scaling feature that shrinks all text written to fit in a letter format.

2. Users can write a word that fills up the entire screen and it will be shrunk to the same size as all the other words.

3. In the app allow users to modify brush color, change the scale size, and choose a background for the letter.

4. This scaling feature is especially useful when writing characters in languages that use more complex letters, like Chinese and Japanese.

5. You write each word full screen and then the app automatically places it neatly onto the page for you.

6. This scaling feature places the new word next to the previous word written.

7. Plus you write with a nice brush to make even sloppy handwriting look sorta artsy.

8. It allows you to actually write with your hand, letters to people to send as email.

9. There are a few apps that allow this but this one is nice because you don't have to squeeze your words into the page in proper proportions.

10. Users can change the end location by moving the red cursor around the screen.

11. "To take a step back to the old way of doing things with your mobile device there's ArtMail.

  • Needs Work

The finished product comes out jumbly.
  • Not there yet ... but could be

This app could be cool, but not yet. Cons: the controls are at the bottom of the display. Without a wrist guard it is easy to accidentally move the insert cursor to someplace other than where you intended. You must work in portrait. With the scaling option, you can obviously fit more written words on a line than you can actually write at one time. Consequently, as you continue to write, the line appears to drift downward. The brush size setup is not retained as you go in and out of the app so that you must finish your handwritten note and mail it before doing anything else. Finally, there is no way to erase. You can undue, but if an errant mark appears there is no way to remove it. On a positive, this app has the potential to finally personalize email, especially when writing notes like birthday greetings. The scaling feature is great. The writing papers look like real stationery and the connection to email (though awkward to first figure out) is simple, much easier than the steps I currently take to send a "handwritten" email. I find the actual writing too difficult to use now, but if updates come along I am willing to try again and alter my rating. For now, I am grateful it was free.
  • Complete frustration

When I finish writing this review I'm deleting this app. Because of their “scaling bar",there is apparently no way to consistently control the placement and size of whatever you write. It gets moved around for no reason. Seems to me when you handwrite something, you've got things where you want them, the size and everything. You don't need some bar to mess with it. The only reason I'm writing so much is that there is absolutely no support. You hit the tab for app support for artmail in the App Store, and you're sent to some crazy place in some symbol-driven language that's talking about who knows what. If someone knows of an app where you can do what this app is trying to do, please leave its name with your review. John
  • Not ready for Prime Time

    By JayMc1234 (Pcmac user)

Cute program. I could even live with the rudimentary functions. Unfortunately, the email hung in the outbox. An email program that won't send email seems rather pointless. Could you keep trying, please?? I really like the concept. And lose the sound effects, while you are at it.
