Game Features and Description

1. Mathdoku (also known as KenDoku®, Calcudoku or KenKen®) is a type of arithmetic/logic puzzle invented by Japanese math teacher Tetsuya Miyamoto.

2. But why waste the money, the time and the paper? Save the trees! You may even find websites to play Mathdoku puzzles on line.

3. Mathdoku is suitable for children, but only if they already possess (or want to further develop) a good level of arithmetic skills.

4. You could spend your hard-earned cash on book after book of puzzles or even print puzzles from various sources on line.

5. But why waste your data plan, when puzzle generation and checking can be done locally? You always have your phone (or tablet) with you, so you'll always have the best puzzle to suit your mood.

6. These mathematical puzzles were intended to be an instruction-free method of training the brain.

7. Whilst aspects of the game are similar to Sudoku, the puzzles offer a more challenging alternative.

8. ・The numbers in each cage produce a given target number, when combined using the mathematical operation provided.

9. As with Sudoku, the solution to each puzzle requires the user to fill an NxN grid with digits (1 to N).

10. Perfect if you want to tease your brain cells or even challenge your students.

11. Daily Mathdokus are a cracking way to keep your mental-arithmetic skills in check.

  • Almost Mathdoku Heaven

Edit 9/9/17: Thank you, thank you, thank you for the number keypad update. 🙏🏼😊👍🏼 There are remarkably few good KenKen/Mathdoku apps out there. I've tried most of them. The biggest issue w/ most apps is the limited number of games available. I'd finish them all, then I'd go back and try to beat my previous time scores...because what else is there to do? Then I finally found this Mathdoku app. Unlimited games! You'll never run out! You can choose the size and the difficulty, so there's always the perfect challenge level awaiting you. I'm very happy to have found it. There are, however, a couple of issues that took this from a 5-star to a 4-star review.... My biggest complaint, (and it can't be THAT difficult to remedy, can it?), is the eensy-weensy number keypad. C'mon, just make the numbers a little bigger, please!!! There's so much empty space around the numbers! There must be a way you could give us just a bit more space for the average finger. And it sure would be nice to be able to save a game to complete later. It's a bit frustrating to invest time in a puzzle and not be able to finish it later if you need to stop. Grrrrr aargh! With those two things remedied , this would be the best Mathdoku app out there, hands down. (Well, it probably already is that, but I'd be in Mathdoku heaven if those two things happened....)
  • NEEDS UPATE!

This is the best kenken app by far, and I’ve tried them all. I can’t live without it. However, since an os upgrade a few months ago it has been glitching. Touch response is very quick & smooth when you start a game, but it gets slower and slower as the game goes on until there is a second or more delay after touch. If I close the app and restart it, it usually goes back to normal and I can finish one game, but that’s ridiculous! PLEASE update so it runs fast and smooth. Thank you!
  • Decent!

There is a surprising shortage of KenKen or Mathdoku iPad apps. And most of them have significant problems - such as non-unique solutions. This app is quite good. I have done a dozen puzzles and they all can be solved with logic and have unique solutions. My complaints are minor: (1) the number keys are very small - there is plenty of open space to make them a little bigger and (2) change the background - the mint green is annoying!! FYI - be sure to read the instructions - to add pencil marks, you simply double-tap the cell...a nice feature!
  • Unlimited Puzzles

The developer is still maintaining the game. Bravo, and Thank you! However, the recent update made the controls for entering numbers even smaller than before so they're now very hard to hit. An unnecessary annoyance in an otherwise great game. Please fix! Original review: Probably one of the most underrated puzzle apps. This is a great app for Kenken (ahem Mathdoku) addicts. It auto-generates puzzles in several difficulty degrees. No need to buy packages with puzzles you’re never going to look at. Almost all needed features are there. The only thing I’m missing is the ability to save an unfinished game so you can pick it up again after playing another one. If you love Math Puzzles and only want to pay once, get this game.
