★ ★ ★ iChromatic Strobe Tuner Overview

What is iChromatic Strobe Tuner? The Strobe Tuner app is a tool used by professionals for precise and responsive tuning of musical instruments. It features high-contrast rotating strobe visualizations that enable rapid and extremely accurate tuning. The app also includes tuning dials, fine tuning meters, and a keyboard image and musical grand staff for learning purposes. The app has automatic note detection and a manual note selection feature for tuning. It also has a multi-strobe mode for high background noise situations. The Concert A frequency can be customized in Preferences, and the app has an approximate working range of 2 octaves below to 2 octaves above Middle C.

Software Features and Description

1. The popup button above the strobe on the right can be used to select the note, or you can use the up/down cursor keys to adjust the note for tuning.

2. The strobe on the right is set manually to one note, which is useful if there is too much background noise for automatic note detection to function properly.

3. Professionals use strobe tuners for the most precise and responsive tuning of musical instruments.

4. Make a strobe stop spinning, and your note will be in tune with the indicated note.

5. The display of responsive high-contrast rotating strobe visualizations enables rapid and extremely accurate tuning.

6. If the strobe is spinning too fast to see, then the note is way out of tune.

7. The strobe on the left does automatic note detection.

8. More familiar-looking tuning dials and fine tuning meters are also available and visible below the two strobes.

9. For those who prefer tuning dials and fine tuning meters, those are visible below the two strobes.

10. For your iPhone and iPad, please see the HotPaw inTuna Strobe Guitar Tuners and iChromatic tuners in the iPhone/iOS App store.

11. Spinning slightly clockwise, and this indicates that your note is slightly sharp.

  • I love the concept, but it has serious issues.

    By ñanñan3 (Pcmac user)

I was looking for something to use to help me improve my intonation while practicing on my bass, and I came across this. Unfortunately, it is very quirky, making it slow to show a definite pitch, and I noticed that while I was playing my upright bass, it was unable to determine D and D# -- specifically, D3 and D#3. I did not take the time to check for any other problems because I have already deemed it useless to my purposes until the issues specified above are fixed.
  • Nice strobe tune simulation

    By sissc0 (Pcmac user)

Works well, VERY accurate. Best and most accurate tuner I’ve used since an original strobe tuner. May be a little sensitive for some because the displays track the input instantaneously, it could use a little buffering + averaging but once I got used to it it wasn’t an issue. Moving in the right direction.
  • Not recommended!

    By mp_willowriver (Pcmac user)

Thoroughly unimpressed! I am a music major with plenty of experience on tuners. When the application actually stays open (it usually crashes within ten seconds) it is probably great. Unfourtunately I wouldn't know, it hasn't stayed open yet. I don't even know if this actually works like a strobe tuner or just looks like one. If it ever starts working I'll post those results as well. I bought this app to avoid paying much more for a hand held chromatic tuner and now I need to pay for both. This application is useless for anyone until the bugs are worked out. The support link is another great time waster. Click on the support button in the app store and you get routed to the sales page in the app store. It is a nice little circle that conveniently gets you nowhere.
  • Does a great job

    By pehrlich (Pcmac user)

sexy? no. Wonderful sound? yes. My family was flabberghasted that I would actually pay for software, but I did, and it was the right decision. Keeps my uke in tune, I think better even than my iPhone apps, and my dad is even able to test his own singing with it. Sweet! Thanks Ronald
