  • Good, but much room for improvement

    By Tomarch (Pcmac user)

Wild West is fine - the graphics are legible, and the ball visible. The Deep is annoying - the audio comments are repetitive, and the game is way too easy. Where a Wild West game takes 10-15 minutes to complete, the Deep can take you deep into the night - my second game lasted over an hour, and in the end, I just gave up and let the balls fall past the flippers. Jungle Style is just plain bad - there no sense of where the ball is on the table, and the developers just tried to pack too much into one game. The graphics on the table just confuse things, and if it were a plain wooden table like Wild West, the game would be better. In this case, less is more. On all games, the ball physics are flawless, the flippers work fine, but the plunger is lame. You pull the plunger back in stages, not a smooth action like you would see on a real the app game. Update: the new version corrected the plunger issue, but now the ball physics are not as smooth. I could have lived with the lame plunger, but the jerkiness of the ball needs to be fixed. I'm on a powerful desktop graphics workstation - this will be a major issue for those will less powerful computers.
  • Great game that will improve with a high score feature

    By NihilUbu (Pcmac user)

I'm guessing that they may add the ability to save high scores (how else someone judge how they are improving at the game). Afterall, the ipad version has a high score ranking (per the developer's website). Maybe we'll see this with an update. I like the scrolling feature on this game, as I think someone has finally gotten it right! The Little Wing games don't zoom in enough for a 21.5 inch screen, and other games (e.g. Dream the app) have lag in their scrolling that causes you to lose track of the balls. this app, however, gets it right... and they even zoom in for details at certain points when you don't need the larger view. Overall, I'm impressed with the game experience with the scrolling feature. Besides, can always switch to one of the other views. I like the variety of tables, from the detailed and complex ones to the wonderful simplicity of the retro Western theme. The game loads so fast and looks so great that I have to give it four stars.
  • Lack of documentation hurts initial impressions.

    By $1K Master (Pcmac user)

I wrote a review griping about the lack of an option to have a static camera view, since the "follow the ball" default was making me dizzy. Then I found another review detailing the keyboard commands that allowed me to have that static view. *whew* However, this experience does underscore one significant issue with this game... the complete lack of documentation. There simply is none. Do the developers expect us to just figure it out by trial and error? A couple other dislikes about the game worth mentioning are the lack of ability to customize the controls; sluggish response from the plunger on pressing the down-arrow; lack of a high-score board; and lack of left/right nudge controls (you can only nudge up). That said, I have to say that graphically, this is one of the best the app games I've seen. The table layouts are all great, and the the app physics are very good. The games aren't as compelling or immersive as the latter 3 Pro the app series of tables of many years ago, which today remain the gold standard that I judge any the app game against, but still a great time killer for most any the app enthusiast.
  • Visually superb, great gameplay

    By gerardrj (Pcmac user)

The only thing wrong with this app is how much time you'll waste playing it. I figure pibball costs about $.50 to play in the arcade and I've just played about $20 worth after downloading it. If you've played older the app games on a compter, this game is completely different: the entire playfield is a 3D model and the camera can zoom around following the ball in real time and you'll see the backside of items and how the relate to each other. You can see a complete flythrough of any game by clicking on the background of the main menu where you selelect a game to play. There are three camera views: ball tracking, directly overhead and classic front-of-the-machine stance. I personally found the ball track mode distracting but it is handy to use when you are in some tight areas. Changing views is a simlpe press of the "c" key during play. Fliipers are lightening fast, and the repsonse of every item on the playfield is instantaneous. The entire game is so realistic that I'm waiting to see if the most common ball track start wearing out the paint on the playfield. I see there was a lot of clammering for a high-score sytem that is in place now, its not part of the games themselves but a seriese of windows after the game end. I'd like to see the highs integrated in to the scoreboard of the games instead of taking me out of the game to enter my name,
