CRIPPLEWARE of a Formerly Great App

the app was for many years a go to for all video. The dev improved and finessed it to a fine and totally needful app. In terms of playback, it’s still up there. It can indeed play many and sundry audio or video file formats which other apps can not. Occasionally the audio lagged behind the video. For all that, I would otherwise give it a solid 4.5. But the dev has earned 1 star by disabling one of the most basic features of the app. Samba shares are now restricted to streaming. That is, you can scan for videos on your local network, from a computer or storage device, and stream them. But you can not download them to your iPad. This is an absolutely inscrutably bad decision to remove this feature. The WHOLE POINT of the app is to download videos to it to play when away from home, without the need of a network. Why eliminate the basic functioning necessary to use the device? Also deleted is apparently the in-app web browser. I never used it much, but valued it being there. Perhaps this was in response to the recent hardware exploits. One can use another browser to send a downloaded web file to the app. And if one is moving files to the app from a computer, one can still move them from a computer using the the app FTP or Bonjour servers. But if you use a net storage device, you are now up the creek. I heartily encourage the dev to RESTORE SAMBA FUNCTION immediately. Well, now I have to go find a new video player.
Best A/V player I’ve found

I mostly like this one and use it for guitar practice. Looping sections of songs or videos to play repeatedly, plus the ability to slow down the speed, are great features. Minus a star because neither of these features is implemented in the friendliest manner. But right now it’s my go to player and haven’t found one better!
Best video app for training videos

I needed a video player to watch training videos. I tried them all. Most had a lot of trouble when skipping forward or backwards. Which is a problem if I missed something in the video. Also, you need to be able to speed up videos. You can easily watch a training video at 1.5x or more. Not only is there an easy to use on screen graphic to control speed, but it remembers the speed I used. The only player that did that. Others video players needed multiple steps to get to the speed adjustment. Between that and so far flawless sink of audio and video when skipping around, this is easily the best app. I would give it 6 stars if they added a favorite icon so I could tag some videos.
Download option removed with paid version

The light version does an excellent job playing my MKV. movie files. Therefore I was was happy to move from the light version and buy the paid version to remove the ads and unlock other features. However after paying for and downloading the full version I see that the option to download movies from my home remote network drive has been removed in the paid version. I'm not sure why features are removed when you move from a "lite" version to a paid version? Please add this download feature back in future updates please.
