Software Features and Description

1. This application provides you access to all of the current amateur radio satellites and will calculate the rise/set times and associated azimuth and elevation for the selected satellite, Sun or Moon given either the user entered or network retrieved location.

2. Well after a BUNCH of work, I have managed to consolidate all of the SatSeries of apps (ProSat, HamSat, ISS and their iPad cousins) into a single universal application that provides access to different features via a subscription model.

3. The first is for those folks wanting to know all overflights for a given location (like Ham radio operators) while the second mode computes only those passes where the satellite would be visible to a ground observer.

4. The "Classic" versions of the app will continue to be supported for defects through the end of the year but all new feature development will be focused on the new universal application.

5. If you are having an issue with any of my apps PLEASE drop me an email at support@vosworx.com. There are a number of people who have left comments about the app not working but have never contacted me about the issue.

6. Welcome to the Ham Radio specific version of the SatSeries of applications (ProSat, HamSat and ISS).

7. In addition, you can see the Earth rendered either as a 3D globe or a 2D map using photo realistic texture maps for the Earth model.

8. The orientation of the map is easily changed by a simple rotation of the device from portrait (3D) to landscape (2D).

9. At this point there are no known issues for the application and it is working as it always has.

10. There are two modes for satellite rise/set calculations.

11. In either orientation you can zoom in and out as well as pan using the touch screen.

The app does not provide the app frequencies nor provide Doppler shift information. The frequencies are all zero
  • Very different experience...

I actually use both ProSat and HamSat on my iPhone (ProSat for viewing stuff like the Shuttle and ISS and HamSat specifically configured with only the amateur sats that I work. That way I don't have to flip back and forth in setting up the lists of satellites) That said, I just updated my review of ProSat as my experience was so different than others who have been posting recently so I figured I'd update this one as well (it's much the same as what I put for ProSat). Anyway, I use these apps every few weeks to either wow my friends that I can predict the overflight of the ISS from my phone or to allow me to work a specific the app from my handheld I've been using these apps for a few years now without issue (actually just used it last night to watch an overflight) However, what had me take the time to write an updated review is that some posts made it sounds like the author wasn't responsive and I had to speak up. I've sent a number of enhancements to the author (that he's included) and he's always been easy to get a hold of (heck he responded at like 10p one time on a weekend) Anyway, just wanted to put in my opinion as my experience has been nothing but good and the apps working fine for me.
  • Looks good, not necessarily for a beginner

I'm just now starting out in trying to use satellites. I've got a 2m/70cm HT (Icom IC-91AD) and I'd like to use it for the app DX. I don't already know which satellites have which modes, and I'm finding myself going back and forth between the AMSAT website to the iPhone trying to find which satellites have which modes and where they are over the globe. I would like to be able to put in a mode or modes (2m/70cm, 70cm/2m, 2m/2m, etc) and have the app tell me which satellites are above the horizon or will be in the next 30 minutes or something like that. Then I could pick one and give it a shot. I'm also not sure why I need to put in the frequencies that the sats are using, when they're on the same AMSAT website that the author is probably using to grab the orbital data...Couldn't you put that in the list as well? I'd like this to be my one-stop-shop for what I need away from the desk. Thanks! 73, KE6HRM
  • Its not broken, but not that useful either.

My copy runs fine on a 3g phone with whatever version of iOS 4 we're up to. My problem with the program is that is doesn't provide pass data. You cant select a the app and tell the software to predict future passes of the bird; so really its not that useful. PocketSat offers some of this data, but it has its own limitations for ham users (no plots, no frequency data) and I don't think its worth the $20 extra than this program. HamSat would make a fine free program, but does a worse job than free Java programs for the PC for the ham sat operator. Developers, come on, you know what the operator needs. Put pass predictions in with some basic direction finding and repeater frequencies and you have a gem here.
