Software Features and Description

1. Well after a BUNCH of work, I have managed to consolidate all of the SatSeries of apps (ProSat, HamSat, ISS and their iPad cousins) into a single universal application that provides access to different features via a subscription model.

2. The application will calculate the rise/set times and associated azimuth and elevation for the selected satellite, Sun or Moon given either the user entered or network retrieved location.

3. The first is for those folks wanting to know all overflights for a given location (like Ham radio operators) while the second mode computes only those passes where the satellite would be visible to a ground observer.

4. The "Classic" versions of the app will continue to be supported for defects through the end of the year but all new feature development will be focused on the new universal application.

5. The application's UI has been completely re-worked to take full advantage of the iPad's increased screen size.

6. ProSatHD is the iPad specific version of the ProSat application.

7. In addition, you can see the Earth rendered either as a 3D globe or a 2D map using photo realistic texture maps for the Earth model.

8. Thanks to everyone who has sent in their questions/requests that have led to this application being created.

9. The orientation of the map is easily changed by a simple rotation of the device from portrait (3D) to landscape (2D).

10. In either orientation you can zoom in and out as well as pan using the touch screen.

11. There are two modes for satellite rise/set calculations.

  • Liking the iPad version

    By TooMuchTravel (Pcmac user)

I've been a long time use of the iPhone version of this app so when I saw there was an iPad version I was quick to buy (I've used the heck out of the iPhone version as I backpack a lot and like to look at satellites while I'm out) I REALLY like the new graphics (wow, the Earth blending between night and day is much better) That said, while I like it I think it could be better. I'd give it five stars if you'd add in a graphical compass view like you see in many of the desktop satellite programs. I'd also like to see Iridium Flare prediction and a 3D version of the viewing. I'm thinking it would be the satellite against the star background from your location using the compass and inclinometers in the iPad so you could steer the iPad and the pic would change (look at StarWalk for an example) Anyway, way cool app and even better with a few more additions.
  • Fantastic resource; I'm just getting started

    By therandyzone (Pcmac user)

This app provides exactly the information I need, and in great depth. I just ordered a portable radio transceiver, and I'm hoping to listen to the ISS and amateur radio satellites. Now I can easily learn when flyovers are taking place, so I can get the best signals. I'm sure I'll also enjoy spotting satellites and telescopes like the Hubble. It's hard to believe the amount of information this app provides for ten dollars; I'll be using it for years to come. Don't hesitate; if your search brought you here, you've found what you're looking for!
  • Great predictor

    By twoeyedox (Pcmac user)

I use this app to predict amateur radio encounters with satelltes as well as discover ISS visible encounters. ProSat is the big brother to HamSat has all the amateur radio features built in that I am aware. When using a radio to contact a satellite with a beam antenna one must aim the antenna accurately to reach it - especially if you are using low power radios like handhelds. Two bits of information useful are the overhead plot and elevation data. I monitor the elevation data to adjust the aim of my antenna for an optimun signal. I find the circular horizon views accurate and predictable. The automatic change in display from the globe in portrait to a Mercator for landscape is a nice design to fill the space most efficiently. I can't find any faults that I wish would be worked so I give it a 5 star for an efficient utility.
  • Great program for amateur satellite communication

    By Mike Gao/BD4OS (Pcmac user)

The program is great for amateur satellite communicate,it provide realtime data to correct doppler frequency shift, and it work with Chinese amateur satellite HO-68(I have try some program to predict failed for HO-68 on WM system, but other satellite work well). And elements data download ok with new Chinaham entrace,it's helpful because sometime it doesn't work from celestrak in China(due to great wall:(
