  • I take it all back!

    By joecunningham (Pcmac user)

I just figured it out! You slide your thumb up and down to rotate the ship when in landscape (as opposed to tapping like in portrait mode). Well that's cool. This is a great example of how sometimes it only takes one instructional design error to tip over the whole user experience. I just ripped these guys a new one for not fixing a non-existent bug which I thought made the game unplayable in landscape mode when the only thing needing repair was the instruction screen for that mode. To save people some of the frustration expressed in several reviews here, make the following change: In the landscape mode instruction screen change the two button icons under the left (green) region into a single slider like the one you drag to unlock the phone, perhaps with back-forth arrows to help make the point. Basics such as there being a big difference between how these two modes are controlled could also be somehow made more clear. For example, I was also confused that the custom placement of buttons didn't work in landscape. I now realize that's only done in portrait, but I was left pretty much on my own to figure this out. Communicate more clearly in your instructions and this will be a five star game.
  • Great iPhone version of Asteroids!

    By eXWorld.com (Pcmac user)

Was really happy to see this on the App Store. Was a big fan of Asteroids Deluxe growing up. Great set of game controls in landscape mode. Game is fun and pretty much stays true to the original arcade classic. Wouldn't mind an option to remove or change the background.
  • Latest update fixes NOTHING

    By joecunningham (Pcmac user)

The last time they updated this they added a lansdcape view which would have been cool if it worked, but it doesn't. This latest update makes no attempt to fix this. They just inserted a prettier background graphic and left it broken. The problem is the two turning buttons. In portrait view, tapping one twirls the ship accordingly, but in landscape these buttons do not work if tapped - they only budge the ship if you make tiny circular motions on them resulting in jerky unpredictable rotation that is unhelpful in the perilous asteroid field. All it lets you do is die young, over and over. Since landscape is probably the only mode you'll want to use once you see it, the game is almost totally worthless. And it is infuriating that this developer would release an update that does not address this crippling bug after we've waited weeks for one.
  • Good, but update isn't

    By dardenlinux (Pcmac user)

Good game. I tried to play it after the update though and it was in some wierd landscape play mode. Without controls!? It took me a minute to do anything except fly to pieces and land somewhere else, and I never figured out how to move foward. Anyway, I was pretty mad by that time that they had sold me a game then ruined it. Then I turned my touch up out of landscape and it was back to normal. Almost. I had to re arrange the controls so they were the same as before. Now the big problem is that my ship doesn't turn as well as before. It's slow and hard to do now. So, still a great $ .99 game, but I took one star away because of the update.
