  • Fantastic App/Training programs

    By Seezle23 (Pcmac user)

Your wallet won’t ‘suffer’ as this is a well designed and motivating app to help you accomplish any goal. Versatile, easy to use, as challenging as you’d like with the best test I’ve used for power/FTP numbers. I trialed Zwift, TrainerRoad, Rouvy, Peloton and several free virtual cycling apps and found The Sufferfest to come out on top. The real UCI footage as well and Tours lead up breathtaking passes adds a new dynamic for keeping you motivated during the workout. You also have GCN indoor classes and no video option as well. Settings are completely customizable so you can see as much or as little data as you desire. Training plans are done by professionals and easy to follow. The mental toughness program was novel and has helped me tremendously, something I haven’t seen with any other app/program. The app has it all. Unless you’re dying for a videogame appearance I recommend Sufferfest for all your training/exercise needs. You can add to phone, iPad and even computer. Well done.
  • Unlikely to pay after the free trial ends

    By LeahFromColorado (Pcmac user)

I have been using the regular the app app for a year, adjusting resistance manually to do RPM and Trip rides from the Les Mills app. I just started the SYSTM free trial, as offered through the app, and I am not impressed. I started with the Full Frontal 4DP test, as I imagine many people do. A full hour of race video, and it’s all white men?! Way to open the front door of the app with a "your kind not welcome here" message. Women and POC riders exist; if we aren’t on your radar for clips, are we on there for anything else? I was also taken aback by the lack of integration with the basic the app app and controls. SYSTM seems to operate independently of the app, despite the shared name, meaning you have to learn a whole new set of controls, and the ride history in one app isn’t connected to the other (you can’t even manually connect them through the authorized apps function on either side). I ignored the "don’t be in erg mode" warning in the FTP test because I wasn’t in erg mode (in the app), but apparently SYSTM defaults to erg mode on its own, so I had to restart the dang test. Nor does SYSTM connect to the iPhone Health app. The FTP test was fine and I do intend to try a few more sessions, but I'm probably not a long-term convert.
  • Four years, still my fave app

    By Ginathisnicknamenottaken (Pcmac user)

I love to hate the four dimensional profile test (will truly challenge you in at least one of the four areas, if not all 4) and think this is the best system for improving as a cyclist short of a professional coach and team. Do the test, do a training plan, and see if you don’t make improvements in your fitness also. New videos are great—they have some recovery rides with movies, some no video, and Norway is a cool very immersive experience. I’ve tried Zwift (fine for just going) and I’ve used Rouvy, but SUF tailors the workouts to you so well that it’s a much better workout. Try it!
  • Great app, but a few gripes...

By The one and only Cannoli (Pcmac user)

Absolutely love the content, but the app can use some refining. First, when doing a workout with a video, if you background the app to change your music, or in my case, switch to my home automation app to turn on my trainer fan, upon returning to the Sufferfest app, the video no longer plays. The workaround is to go to settings and disable video playback with the toggle switch, then re-enable playback. Definitely an annoyance. The second thing is the ability to maximize the video by double tapping the screen no longer works. Expanding the video filled the wide screen TV that I AirPlay to. Now I have two rather large black bars on the top and bottom like watching a letterbox video on an old fashioned 4:3 TV. This change has actually been in place for some time. I just haven’t reviewed the app until now. Finally, the sensitivity of the button to change the 4DP settings from individual to all at once requires pinpoint accuracy. Trying to make the adjustment at 95 RPM is an exercise in futility. I can literally see my heart rate increase from the frustration. Come on the app! Time to listen to user feedback and refine what could be a 5-star application!
