What is Lockdown Privacy? Lockdown is a firewall app available for iOS and Mac that allows users to block any connection to any domain, protecting their privacy across the web. It is the world's first open-source firewall for iOS. The app is free to use and offers optional VPN for additional privacy. Lockdown is on-device, meaning it does not connect to any servers or third-party analytics, ensuring that everything the user does stays private.

  • OK... but high CPU Load

    By blau (Pcmac user)

Works as advertised, but requires around 5% CPU on a brand-new 15" 2016 MBP - when deactivated. Also conflicts with existing VPN setups (without using their VPN), both private and commercial (which is a feature rather than a bug, but still). Sitting this one out for a while. On the Mac that is. Works just fine on iOS and iPadOS.
  • Battery Antagonist

    By j%nml (Pcmac user)

I have the same issue as another reviewer - it burns through the battery, big time - even when the computer is sleeping. We need an app like this that blocks ads and trackers across all apps, not just in the browser; but for now the battery problem makes it a nonstarter. It works pretty well on my iPhone, so I'm keeping it and hoping for an update that fixes the power drain. If that happens, it'll get at least another star (or maybe two).
  • Almost a gold standard

    By Zach888 (Pcmac user)

The ad tracking is better than my browser plugin and appears to block even more ads while also preserving website functionality! However, this app doesn't appear to be compatable with third-party VPNs. They will appear to run, but my IP address does not change. I only use VPNs on occasion, but would prefer to have this running in tandem. If this is fixed (and their privacy policy really is what they say it is) there is no reason this app can't be a gold standard for mac users!
  • Does not follow Mac UI conventions

    By sdh9 (Pcmac user)

Whoever designed this app also decided to create their own UI widgets instead of using the Mac ones. As a result, this does not feel like a Mac app, in fact this is something I would expect from Windows. The app works and does what it says it will do, but it's clunky and visually unappealing. It's a good first step but needs more polish.
  • Conflicts with VPN

    By Ric2009 (Pcmac user)

I am running another VPN software I use all the time. I eaither have to run the app, or my VPN. There should be a setting to allow other VPNs on the system.
