  • Good app gone bad

    By angusmci (Pcmac user)

Earlier versions of this app were a very useful one-trick pony: you could choose a photo, and the app would show you possible crops for the photo. The app’s suggestions were often pretty good: it would usually come up with at least one crop that noticeably improved the photo. Then something happened, and the developers decided to rename and reinvent the app and, in so doing, rendered it almost useless. Now, instead of allowing you to pick a photograph from your library, the app presents what appears to be a random selection. Instead of being able to choose the aspect ratio you want, you’re restricted to just three choices: 16:9, 1:1, or 9:16. This alone makes it useless to me: I usually use 4:3 or 3:2 ratios, and I used the earlier version of the app to choose a better crop in one of those two ratios. I can’t do that any more. The developers also gave the app a new interface that is ugly and unintuitive (also, buggy: if you don’t happen to have any photos in your library, the random selection process never terminates). I’ve given the app 2 stars in memory of the earlier version, or perhaps for novelty value, but in its present form it’s probably not something that many people will need in their app library.
  • Where is the option to turn off the AI Crop feature??

    By SteskerPhotos (Pcmac user)

This app is very good at revealing photos I had completely forgotten about. However, I cannot give this app 5 stars due to the fact that there is not an option to turn off the AI Auto Crop Feature. I love seeing these old photos again but would prefer to save them to photo albums in their original format. Your Polar Pro App provides me plenty of opportunity and tools to crop them when and/or if I want and how I want. Add an option to re-save my photos in their original format and I will more than likely use this app daily. Unfortunately, I’m going to have to shelve this app until said feature is implemented.
  • Update offers a terrible “improved” interface

    By Techno-nut (Pcmac user)

What a disappointing upgrade. I really object to developers (Apple included) telling me how I should best file, review, sort and display my images. Give me a simple image picker and just display the results of your “deep dive” cropping algorithms. I have 2000 images on my iPad Pro and It takes forever to find anything with this random memories interface. I gave up trying. And what does “Remove” do? And what is with the thick black lines covering what looks like multiple cropped images stacked on top of each other? And so much wasted screen space. I’m sorry, this is just a mess, and the only reason it is staying on my iPad is in hopes of a major redo someday, because sadly it will not see any use before until then.
  • Interesting idea; crashes often

    By maxxipotamus (Pcmac user)

I wanted to give it a higher rating because the app presents interesting crop ideas that I didn’t think of in many occasions. However, the app itself is not stable. It crashes often, but seems to happen randomly. It could be pressing the crop again button, scrolling through the styles, or simply trying to save the new crop into the camera roll.
