  • Maybe the Best Sound/Song/Sound Physics App In Store!

    By Eriptron (Pcmac user)

Initially, years and years back, I stumbled across Dhalange MG and I was at once captivated with it’s literally hundreds of controls, adjustments and settings! That also put me off at the same time. Then a mental gaff on my part thinking the default Manual page with it’s diagram was all there was. The dark colors and lack of visual contrast makes missing things easy (idiot corporations think low contrast text font (increased eye strain) is so cool!? Corp. morons...at least for me. Then it was truly a standalone, which put me off as I use many music apps in AUM (or lately, ApeMatrix). Then the cost was significantly higher than most other apps at the time. I didn’t take the gamble till just a couple of years ago. I’ve still not done much with it as I still have issues with it. The built in app virtual keyboard plays one sound yet the AUM virtual keyboard is a completely different sound and I can’t figure out why. The app’s built in keyboard, astoundingly, does not have note sustain (hold, latch, whatever you want to call it. I agree with virtually everything that’s been posted here. I still give it five stars as it was far ahead of it’s tome! Time to figure this beast out! 🤓👍
  • Wonderful App, Terrible to Sync with other apps

    By Dudewhohatespayingforgames (Pcmac user)

I love this app and it's really great as a sketch pad, but because of the buggy MIDI clock and Ableton Link it's too difficult to get this connected to other apps which was one of the things I'd really wanted from this app. Huge let down. That being said, every time I open this thing, I usually get something decent going in under 5 minutes. It's a good app that REALLY needs some work on debugging. Happy to Beta test!
  • Crashes!

App does nothing but crash. No one should buy this until it is fixed.
  • Wants to be a killer app. Almost is.

the app is a very impressive sound-designing environment: although advertised as a "beatbox", it is capable of pretty much any sort of composition one might wish to do. It has a piano roll style MIDI editor and you can use that for every instrument if you want, but the generative composition tools and the physical modeling synth--of which you get four instances per composition--are sophisticated and almost infinitely tweakable, making a MIDI editor almost mundane. The palette you get looks something like this: eight instances of an analog-style subtractive synth; eight instances of a sampler; four instances of a physical modeling synth, each of which can use one of three models of differing complexity; and a single additive synth with seven oscillators which are added together as harmonics of one voice. Each can be sequenced separately using MIDI or one of two generative composition processes. One uses patterns that are chosen according to assigned probabilities; the other uses matrices (rows and columns) of assignable probability values to implement Markov-chain sequences. All of these goodies are tied together in a mixer with a channel for each voice. The mixer features four independent effects chains with compressor, chorus, flanger, delay, reverb, etc. There are a number of ways to use one composition process to determine another. Included are several well- and lesser-known tuning systems and scales, and you can define your own. More than one scale can be used in a single composition. Each screen has, like, a billion adjustable parameters. Is this enough yet? This is one ambitious app, and it may turn out to be a great one. I have made some interesting sounds so far! There are yet a few kinks to be worked out, though, and I hope this app gets enough attention to make it worthwhile for the dev to keep working on it. I cannot get the app to stay open or loaded with either AUM or Audiobus, and so recording any compositions is not an easy thing to do. EQ is conspicuously lacking, beyond hi- and lo-cut filters on the synths. If the app played well with Audiobus or AUM, this would be less of a problem, but it would still be very useful to have even a three-band EQ on each of the mixer channels. EQ in the effects busses would be gravy. It is also a very very tricky balance to keep the sound from clipping. This seems to be an internal problem--that is, it occurs early in the signal, before it ever reaches an analog output. This clipping crops up most often when using the effects busses: a fifty/fifty dry/wet mix in any of the effects will clip, but adjusting the mix to be more dry or more wet will keep the signal from getting too hot. I do tend to favor dense sounds, but there are many apps that can handle pretty much whatever I throw at them, even when I am pegging all the meters--just as long that last one at the headphone out stays out of the red. I am finding the app to be worth the investment as-is, for the physical modeling synth and the generative composition tools. I hope that the last few obstacles to creating a recordable mix are resolved soon, but in the meantime I am having fun making sounds I had not heard before out of my iPad.
