This is a low budget solution for creating spherical panoramas. The final image quality is OK, but the real advantages are speed, ease of use and affordability. This app is designed to work with “this app”hardware that is less than $100. (If you already have a Tripod, and a way to attach your iPhone to the Tripod, you might not even need the more expensive motorized base.) The idea is that a fish eye lens is clipped over the camera and the camera is spun around a center point – the nodal point. The app takes several pictures as the camera rotates 360 degrees. With the motorized base, when synched with Bluetooth, this done in seconds... with brief pauses for each picture to be taken. (Looks like the pause is to steady the shot and reduce camera shake.) The “stitching” of the images is done in the iOS device and it’s done right away. That’s one of the strengths of this setup, as no Internet access is required. It’s fast and the results are amazing... unless you’re a fussy photographer. The quality is good, but it’s not superb. This is a low budget solution. If you’re expecting an iPhone with a clip-on fish eye lens, to beat setups that cost thousands of dollars, you’re likely to be disappointed. There are problems though. The motorized iPhone mount may have trouble maintaining a Bluetooth connection. If that happens, pressing a button on the device will spin it manually. I think that’s what I like about this setup. It needs to be properly setup and aligned, but it’s not terribly unforgiving. A big problem is with the Dermandar logo being added to the final image. The benefit of this app is speed. The Dermandar logo, while a nice looking logo, is not my logo. To edit that out is a lot of extra work. (Fortunately, the update notes state “remove our logo on zenith” as something that’s being worked on.) Also, when moving the images off your iOS device, be careful not to lose quality. Depending on the method of transport, a much lower resolution could be sent instead.

My friend recommended this app Bluetooth rotator and fisheye lens from Amazon - that is how I found out about the app. I was blown away by how easy it is to use, and by the quality of the output. I have an iPhone 6s and I am getting 32MP VR images. I am in the market for a new house, and the navigation in all directions definitely facilitates remembering the small details and getting a better feel for the place. Highly highly recommend.
