  • Logs unused time

    By Mature Teen (Pcmac user)

Hello! Yes, I might be a 15 year old girl, but I am not here just to complain about how annoying the idea of the app is to social teens like myself. This app has such a wonderful concept, as kids and teens nowadays are becoming more and more addicted to their phones every day. It is really nice for parents like mine with multiple teens that use their free time playing games or using social media. However, this app truly just does not work. For example, It might tell my parents that I have used over 5 hours on Snapchat while I have been at school, not on my phone. This gives my parents the wrong idea about me, as they imagine I am using my phone rather than paying attention. Other times, it might say I have been on my phone for around 6 hours, but if you check the things that “I have been doing”, it will say that I have spent 4 hours on “Uncategorized Apps”. But in reality these four hours were not spent doing anything. My dad gets extremely annoyed when I have to ask him for time so that I can do homework, because I have “been on my phone all day”, while I haven’t even been on it half the time that circle has logged. If you are a parent looking for a way to limit their children’s screen time, I would not recommend this app. I do know that Apple devices IOS 11 or above (I’m pretty sure...maybe 10 or 9?) has a similar way to do this called “Screen Time”. If you are interested, I would definitely look into that.

I’ve been losing a lot of sleep from the Disney circle. My dad turns off the WiFi at 10:00, so if I’m working on online homework and it hits 10:00 I finish my work, or turn it in. I was working on a social studies current events when it hit 10:00. I had to turn it in by 11:59 I ended up getting a late grade while everyone else in my class got 100. I like my dad and all, but if he wants me to get good grades he should not turn off the WiFi. It also turns out I’ve been getting less sleep too. At 10:00 all I can play are games without WiFi. The only one I have on my computer is rct3. It’s a game that you can spend hours on and it only feels like you’ve been playing for 30 minutes. So I end up playing it until 1:00, I get up for school at 6:00. Whenever I go to bed i feel like I’m just closing my eyes, then opening them to see it it’s 6:00. I google why it was happening, and it said sleep loss. This has never happened to me before, and it started when my dad started shutting off my wifi. I hate it
  • Riddled with WiFi-breaking bugs

On paper this idea seems amazing. When put into practice the the app falls flat on its face. I am a sophomore in high school and my parents installed the circle around a year ago. It seems as if the circle just EXISTING on your WiFi significantly slows it down. Trying to download applications proves to take hours despite our WiFi previously having a download speed of 30 mbytes/sec. On top of it significantly slowing the WiFi it is incredibly bad at detecting what is a “game” what is “social media” and what is simply neither. I am very involved in the debate team and therefore do quite a lot of research. I have found that researching and going into news articles will be counted as a video game or social media the majority of the time. On top of this I have not been able to download games on my Xbox for more than the set 30 minutes a day since the circle counts the actual Xbox menu as a video game. Not only has it taken weeks for me to download a singular game but it also takes all of my online game time every day. In short the circle is a fine concept. Sadly it is put into practice terribly and costs quite a lot for its mediocre performance. If you are a parent that wants to limit a kid’s time online, I would suggest discussing the problem before hastily buying this product. Remember there are many free alternatives to the circle.

This app is a good idea but it doesn’t even work. the app constantly takes away extra time while my brother and I are not on our devices-it took away one this morning at 2:15 AM WHILE EVERYBODY WAS SLEEPING. So now I have no time for the rest of the day and my dad is waking and won’t be able to answer my text messages. Also, due to the app, until my dad figured out how to fix this, I can only play on my phone when I am at home and all the other times it would say no internet. It also counts social media when I don’t even have any social media. This app is a good idea if you don’t know that this app counts time while you are sleeping or at school. My dad is always getting mad because he has to give back the time that this app took away. And when he gives me an hour, my internet will stop working after 30 minutes. Overall, I hate this app, get another app or use screen time instead of this one.
