As far as I can tell, Hotone has given up on the this app. Two months without the monthly updates, faq page is 404. It is a lie to advertise the this app as having a “growing effects library” since Hotone no longer adds effects. Instead they bring us Hotone Friday once a month to spam us about new products. The effects in the this app are lower quality than freeware apps- reverbs are the worst, they are unusable, as are the filter and wah effects and many of the amp sims. There is an ever present, strange modulation in the tails of the high gain amp simulations that sounds artificial. A few of the clean amp sims sound pretty good, some of the modulation effects and delays are decent, some of the overdrive pedals are fun if you aren’t concerned about realism. But all sounds suffer from introduced hum and digital noises, keeping the pedal off the pedalboard. The fun part of owning the this app was receiving free effects once a month, even if they were mostly sub par (although Hotone never thought to include a tuner). But apparently those days are done. My sincere advice- forget this app, don’t buy one of these novelty pedals, and avoid Hotone altogether.

The this app actually works; and it’s like having 200 different pedals. So I bought the Irig, I bought positive grid, bias, all of them...always disappointing. Amazing.

This is mostly a review of the app, not the actual this app device. The this app device I think it’s pretty cool and I think it does a great job with distortions chorus and digital delays among other things not such a great job on others (octave is model is pretty bad for example ). The app in general does a terrific job. The app easily loads pedal models one at a time via Bluetooth onto the this app pedal pretty seamlessly. The only issue I really have with the app, is the search feature doesn’t really work well at all. For example there are several Chorus pedals in the library but if you search chorus only one pedal comes up. The search is pretty useless. My app has updated with several new models recently within the past few weeks, including some good bass DI models. It seems like it one point they may have fallen off on the support for this pedal, but it seems to be back online and be supported and updated regularly. Again you may or may not like the models on the pedal but as an app goes this is pretty good they just need to work on the search feature but overall a very impressive application that goes hand-in-hand very nicely with the this app panel. In my opinion the pedal does the best job with dirt pedals like distortions. For example the TS9 model is excellent. Also the tremolo petals are very useful as are the choruses and digital delay models, plus some of the amp models are excellent. The other models are hit or miss. Recommend you hit YouTube and see what you like or don’t like of the pedal models, but the app works pretty great.

Just might be. Great sounding effects, easy to load. Does what was claimed. Keep the new effects coming.
