Software Features and Description

1. Unlike traditional phrasebooks and apps that give you limited phrase choices (e.g. “Take me to the bus station” but not “Take me to the airport,” or “I will arrive at 2:00” but not “I will arrive at 3:30 on Friday”) our phrasebook app features hundreds of industry-first “super phrases” that let you customize part of the phrase to your needs and get instant translation and playback of the full sentence in Thai, complete with a talking translator calculator, currency conversion, and units conversion (including Rai for buying Thai land) built right in the phrases themselves! Haggle with a vendor in your language and your currency and instantly convert to hers so she understands you.

2. When you are online, you or your Thai friend can even speak English (iOS5+) or Thai (iOS8+) words right into your device to search the phrasebook (voice recognition requires at least iPhone 4S, 5th Gen iPod Touch, 3rd Gen iPad or any iPad Mini).

3. Entries are richly annotated for native English speakers so you know the exact meaning of each Thai word and phrase you use, including slang and formal variants.

4. Touch any Thai word/phrase in any of our 12,000+ entries to hear a high-quality sound recording of a native speaker, not a toneless gravelly robot as found in other software.

5. For those who want to go deeper, our app includes a comprehensive, interactive introduction to the Thai language where you can learn to speak and recognize the sounds of Thai (even the tones) and learn to put together your own sentences in Thai.

6. Clean layout shows multiple complete entries at once with Thai and English text as big as you want—no more reading glasses.

7. All Thai words in every screen are written using both Thai Script and your choice of 12 popular pronunciation/transliteration systems.

8. You can search for any Thai word you hear by its sound using an English-like phonetic alphabet.

9. Full-text search or dictate words in English or Thai.

10. No knowledge of Thai required (shows both Thai Script and 12 English-like pronunciation systems).

11. Perfect even for beginners who cannot read Thai Script and have no time to study Thai.

  • Best phrase book

    By zack 5555 (Pcmac user)

This is the best Thai phrasebook on the app store, and there are many to choose from and I think I have tried most of them. It allows you to edit the text when there are numbers, days, times, ect. and will speak out your modified text. When learning thai it is important that you get tones right and this app's roman character transcription and tone marks is the best. This app is worth every penny. I moved to Thailand 6 months ago and after trying many resources to help me learn the language Paiboon's products are the best. Can't go wrong.
  • Thai language learning help at it's best!

    By johnlaothai (Pcmac user)

This is a step-up from any of the phrase books and language learning aids I've seen. Though I've been studying and speaking Thai for many years, I've found many things that help me review and refresh my language skills in this app. The amount of material here is vast. It's also very adaptable/adjustable for different situations, eg. gender specificity, and allows beginners to choose their preference from a large variety of romanized versions of Thai. Kudos to Benjawan and her Paiboon team for another great language learning tool!
  • Best thai phrase app

    By MarcusSyl (Pcmac user)

To speak thai, it's essential to get the pronounciation right, if not people will not understand you. The best system for learning the pronounciation is Paiboon plus. This requirement rules out many thai apps. After a lot of trial and error with different apps, I now use ThaiPhrase and TalkingThai (both use Paiboon plus), take notes, repeat. This is by far the most effective, app-driven way to learn thai I have found. ThaiPhrase is comprehensive, relevant in terms of what you need, and easy to use
  • New Pharsebook

    By Casper4131 (Pcmac user)

I have been using Benjawan's products for many years. This new Pharsebook combines a dictionary and everyday phrases used in daily Thai language. I especially like the Thai keyboard to practice my reading and writing. This app is a must for beginner or advanced Thai English studies.
