  • Excellent App

    By JSK67 (Pcmac user)

I have the physical version of this reference book, and it appears to have all the information the other does. As with all the Oxford products I have purchased, it is very well done. Full of music history, and even delving into music itself though not in great detail. It is an excellent source of info on composers. Brief, yet concise. I found it an excellent companion when going thru my music history course. My only gripe was that I had purchased this on an earlier platform and was subsequently discontinued so had to purchase again. Still, well worth the investment!
  • Average app

    By KevinCoan (Pcmac user)

I was hoping this dictionary would have most of the terms that I was finding in my music that I didn’t know, but a decent number of terms I was finding in standard works (Chopin Preludes and Waltzes, Beethoven Sonatas, Schumann, etc) we’re not in the dictionary. Most of the terms I did find in this dictionary I also found in the students’ method books in the last pages. If you don’t have another resource, this is better than nothing, but if you have something you’re happy with, don’t waste time or money on this.
  • Lacks a great deal of information

    By Brian Kemble (Pcmac user)

Here is an example of common terms you will either find misleading information or no information on. Dolce - apparently doesn’t mean sweetly, this app thinks you mean a part of an organ. Leggiero is not a term in this book. It seems as if everything I try to search comes up for with no information or poor information. I expected something akin to the online oxford dictionary which is wonderful. This app is a terrible waste of your money. Do not purchase if you have any musical training whatsoever. Just use google......
  • Not A Music Dictionary

    By SaidItTwice (Pcmac user)

It does not contain the words double-crow or bocal. It does not appear to contain more musical terms than their main dictionary, so it was a waste of my money buying this in addition to the main dictionary. Their word of the day is usually an obscure person that is pointless to know, or a musical term so basic as to be a waste of time. In my opinion it is not really a music dictionary at all. My desire, music terms not music history.
