What is L'Ecorché Desktop? L'Ecorché is an innovative and detailed learning tool developed by artists for artists to reference anatomy. It is a fusion of a book and a sculpture that provides an intuitive and elegant way of learning. The app features classical, educational, and instructional versions of Jean-Antoine Houdon's iconic "écorché." • They must not be marketing this amazing tool!

    By Skeleton Man (Pcmac user)

They must not be marketing this, as all the reviews are old. This tool is amazing! I am new to ZBrush, which is a digital sculpting app for those who don’t know, and this was recommended on there blog. At $4.99 it was a no brainer. I got it and now I have a window with a real time human model that I can freely rotate, scale and check out from any angle while sculpting. If you want to get really deep, you can hit the info button and get all the real anatomy info about every muscle. Having folders full of photo reference can be difficult to work with. You are constantly having to search for new images for different angles or to see different muscles. With this tool, I have a one stop shop where I can check out my anatomy, as needed, and not have to stop working. I absolutely love it!
  • Great set of anatomical models and reference. Would love more models!

    By basic instructions (Pcmac user)

This is great for what it is: five 3D models (Full Body, Head, Torso, Arm, Leg) to pose with various types of detail/contour + an anatomy reference. I would love MORE MODELS. Like a woman’s body, perhaps. Or fully-skinned models of various shapes and sizes. But a marvellous start.
  • Eh

    By Mike Pelosi (Pcmac user)

Very underhwelming for $5. Came recommended so figured I'd give it a go. Really basic stuff with a clunky 1995-ish interface. Go look for free resources of 3D models.
  • How disappointing.

    By Trey Buongiorno (Pcmac user)

The website and the download will lead you to believe that this is a high quality, well lit reference. The fact is that it's simply not. Although it is well modeled, it is unable to change light sources and is also unable to be posed or even switch between poses from a pose library. You can switch between viewing the face, the torso, and other body parts, but they're just pieces of the same whole, so there aren't any advantages to switching at all. There's also no female reference. The fact that only a male model is offered could have been made better by the ability to pose or change a light source or even adjust proportions, but you can't. Positive things I can say is that there is a nice wealth of anatomy reference similar to what you would find in a medical book; that being said, this would be more useful for doctors than for true artists. Skip this one, there's plenty of other reference online and in 3D packages that are way better.
