wish there was more customizability
By A biologist (Pcmac user)
I downloaded this to use in cell culture as my lab is new and doesn't have a clicker. This is the best of the apps ive found as far as having a nice "click" sound and having a big button that makes it easy to count with while looking through the microscope (also tried zappy and invitrogen free apps). However, the lack of true customizability is irritating and caused me to plate 5 x more cells than I should have this weekend. The fact that you have to count all five squares to use the dilution calculator and it averages that is annoying. I want to count just one big square, the middle one, and have it give me the cell density based on that, not on some pre-selected sub-square. Please make the app so I can tell it exactly which squares I'm counting while I'm inside the counter, rather than hidden behind settings, and not even allowing for full customization.

Dilution calculation bug
By avsjLabwvsta (Pcmac user)
There seems to be a bug when calculating live cell density from total cell count and viability above a certain dilution. At 1:100 the live cell density is accurate. On the same count it is inaccurate at 1:500 and 1:1000. Love the app otherwise.

Neat idea, not for all applications
By MoldybreadRVT (Pcmac user)
Maybe this is brewer specific. I tried using it to count granulated leucocytes in a veterinary lab and it fell short. I could not make it register all 9 primary squares. It doesn't have an alarm (that I could find) to allert you when you've hit a specified number of cells, In my case I want to know when I've hit 100 without having to look up from the scope. I don't need the dead cell counter but it is usefull for counting the cells on the grid on the other side of the slide.
I did find it a good alternative to give my thumb a rest from the standard counter.

There is room for improvement but I like it
By RomaneSol (Pcmac user)
I use it to count algae cells. It works. Saves me a bit of time.
