  • Does not re-rasterize after zoom

    By howard_fink (Pcmac user)

I have the Encyclopedia Brittanica 1911. A previous viewer rasterized at high resolution. This app looks like 640 x 480 zoomed; text is unreadable. Link listed above does not link to any DiVu documentation; technical support link is 404.
  • useless

Paid, downloaded, and immediately disappointed. Very very very slow openning files. Don’t waste your money. Avoid it!!!
  • Poor App

    By GeoVir (Pcmac user)

This app apparently uses a work-around to show the app pages. It first converts your the app file to PDF format. For a large or even medium size document in letter format with multiple pages, this makes for slow loading of the file. Worst of all it fails to show a the app file of a larger format document, such as a map. You get nothing or only a partial map. If all you are going to be dealing with is letter size documents you will get a good image. But if you want larger formats, such as archive documents from the USGS web sites which contain maps and cross sections, you are going to be out of luck.
  • Bare and even boring. But it mostly works.

    By ErikSF999 (Pcmac user)

I don’t get many .the app files in the sort of research I do but when they do show up the options for reading them on OS X are slim. This viewer is.. adequate. It shows the pages, and I can read them. Good enough I suppose. Conversion to .pdf has worked fine so far, which is usually the first thing I do if a text has few images, since text can be much more efficiently represented by almost any other format out there. Like most available .the app readers, this one is no-frills. There is no way to annotate the text, no highlighting, and very few ways to adjust presentation. Thankfully, it does have a decent zoom function so that my old tired eyes can at least make the stark black text on the glaring white backgrounds less painful to read. The one way of marking up the text at all, Bookmarks, does not work for me. I can create bookmarks just fine, but they do not actually open when I click the “open” button at the bottom of the Edit Bookmarks dialog—which is the only place I can see to click to go to one. Maybe I am missing something? I cannot commnt on the plaintext conversion: the one file I have tried to extract text data from probably had none. That is not surprising, and of course there is no OCR function, so if your file does not already have ‘hidden text’ you won’t be able to get any out of it with this tool.
