What is iPolar? iPolar is a sailing app that generates performance polars for cruising yachts and cruiser racers. It requires a simple set of input data and can be used on iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. The resulting polars can be visualized as a graph or table of numbers within the app and can also be sent directly to the weather/routing application Weather4D Pro.

Software Features and Description

1. The accuracy of the application decreases for yachts whose displacement to length and sail area to displacement ratios are outside the usual range for production cruisers and cruiser racers.

2. iPolar generates sailing yachts polars of cruising yachts and cruiser racers from a very simple set of data.

3. iPolar has been developed to generate accurate polars of cruising yachts.

4. Resulting polars can be visualized as a graph and as a table of numbers within iPolar.

5. It currently does not handle multihulls and is limited to yachts with a size ranging from 8 to 20m.

6. In addition, the polars can be sent directly to the weather/routing application Weather4D Pro.

Download an Android emulator for PC:

Open the Emulator app you installed » goto its search bar and search "iPolar"
The search will reveal the iPolar app icon. Open, then click "Install".
Once iPolar is downloaded inside the emulator, locate/click the "All apps" icon to access a page containing all your installed applications including iPolar.
Now enjoy iPolar on PC.

To get started, Download the OpenPC software »
- Upon installation, open OpenPC app » goto "Playstore on PC" » click "Configure_Download" button. This will auto-download and install PlayStore on your computer.

To use iPolar,
- Login to the PlayStore we just installed
- Search for "iPolar" » then Click "Install".
- iPolar will now be available on your Windows start-menu.

iPolar functions

- Generates performance polars for cruising yachts and cruiser racers

- Simple set of mandatory input data: Length Overall, Displacement, Mainsail area, Jib area

- Optional input data: Length Waterline, Symmetrical Spinnaker area, Assymetrical spinnaker area

- Units can be set to metric or imperial

- Computes performance polar for wind strength ranging from 4 to 30kts and true wind angles ranging from 0° to 180° for each sail configuration in the input data

- Resulting polars can be visualized as a graph and as a table of numbers within the app

- Limited to yachts with a size ranging from 8 to 20m

This app is terrible. It simply creates a polar based on LOA, LWL, Disp, and Sail Area. This has nothing to do with creating Polars via actual sailing. This is useless.

So, it is winter, but I thought, "What the heck", and bought this. I was instantly impressed. The calculation was pretty much spot on to my existing polars. I don't update everytime I am out, but with this and the ability to set a percentage of efficiency, it is going to be in my top 5 best "friend" apps. The ability to export into Weather4D Pro and optimize routes is great! The fact that is an iOS app and is intuitive out of the box just adds to my fondness of it. Since everyone I sail with either has an iPhone or iPad or both, I just have to show them once how to use it and they can then tweak it without bothering me while I am off shift. I am also seeing how I can take this with me when racing with others and help to improve their boats. The only thing I wish I could do is print my chart. While it is super elegant on the iPad, sometimes you want a printout in a page protector that can be stuffed in a pocket. Yes, I could install on my iPhone, but paper sometimes is just better on a boat. Otherwise, this is great!
