★ ★ ★ Masimo Personal Health Overview

What is Masimo Personal Health? The Masimo Personal Health App is designed to track and trend your biometric information to guide changes in diet, exercise, stress reduction, and sleep to improve your health and wellness, as well as strength and conditioning regimens to improve your athletic performance. The app is only for use with the MightySat fingertip pulse oximeter, which allows you to non-invasively measure blood oxygen saturation, pulse rate, and perfusion index. The app provides additional parameters which include respiration rate and pleth variability index.

Software Features and Description

1. Multiple factors other than hydration and breathing effort can affect PVi, including breathing rate, depth of breathing, body position, body movement, vascular tone, blood flow to the finger (perfusion index), normal variation within a short-term monitoring session, waveform shape changes, and/or cardiovascular abnormalities.

2. MightySat uses Signal Extraction Technology (SET®) to provide accurate oxygen saturation and pulse rate measurements when other pulse oximeters fail, such as during movement and low blood flow.

3. This App (together with the MightySat fingertip pulse oximeter) allows you to non-invasively measure blood oxygen saturation, pulse rate, and perfusion index.

4. Changes in PVi may indicate changes in hydration, breathing effort, perfusion, or other factors.

5. A decrease in PVi may indicate an increased level of hydration, decreased breathing effort, or other factors.

6. An increase in PVi may indicate a decreased level of hydration, increased breathing effort, or other factors.

7. * It is suggested to measure PVi in the same body position, remaining still and without talking, at the same breathing rate and depth of breathing, until you see a high confidence PVi value (displayed value is bright, not dim).

8. Track and trend your biometric information with the Masimo Personal Health App to guide changes in diet, exercise, stress reduction, and sleep to improve your health and wellness, as well as strength and conditioning regimens to improve your athletic performance.

9. MightySat provides additional parameters which include respiration rate and pleth variability index.

10. Pleth Variability Index (PVi) - the variation in perfusion index over your breathing cycle.

11. Respiration Rate (RRp) - the number of breaths you are taking each minute to indicate how well your heart and lungs are functioning as well as how quickly you can recover after exercise.

  • Dumbed down version—good version (Pro) no longer works with older Masimo plethysmograph

    By Vlynxxx (Pcmac user)

I purchased a the app pulse oximeter for use with my iPhone in 2013 for $250. I liked it a lot. The app allowed me to do long continuous recordings and I could see a reasonable tracing by turning my phone sideways. Now, I find the app I can use has been “dumbed down”: it shows a poor quality tracing only with phone upright, so you can only see a few beats. I’ve discovered the good version of the app (this one) still exists but it no longer works with my device. I would have to spend another $300 to buy a MightSatRx to get the features I previously had with my $250 purchase. Apparently there’s an “Rx” wired version that also works with the good app (“Pro”) but I haven’t been able to find that one for sale. Not that I want to buy another $250 device just to get the same features that I used to have with my prior purchase. This is extremely aggravating! I feel that early adopters of this device should have been given continued access to the good, not “dumbed down”, version of the app, instead of having functionality stripped away because you decided to release a new version of the device.
  • Ehh works but needs some fine tuning

    By Bowk5150 (Pcmac user)

Syncs to Training Peaks and Apple Health. Reliable syncing to Training Peaks but hit or miss on Apple sync. Would be great if all data sets would sync with TP and not just HR and Spo2. Not disappointed with the device but software sure could use some attention. Fix the syncing, add option to include all data set to TP, add rotation option to go landscape/portrait on IPad and iPhone.
  • Initial review

    By Gassermd1995 (Pcmac user)

Used this in my aircraft and it works well. The pulse ox itself I'd give 5 stars. The app on the other hand needs a little work but should get there. As for the apps features, the history graph page seems useless. You can't navigate around to see the data from my flight later the next day. It just doesn't seem user friendly. It would also be cool if it logged the data with your altitude for reference wether hiking, flying or what ever your doing at high elevation. I e-mailed the data to myself and you can view it that way but its not in a nice graph form and just the data. For trending seeing the graphs would be better especially if altitude was graphed with it.
  • Great display, but missing email option

    By Loves GSD's (Pcmac user)

Excellent display of O2 levels, pulse rate and pleth wave form. Would be very useful to have info on the meaning of the various wave form shapes, since they reflect cardiac action. Presumably this lack reflects the warning that this app is not for medical use, which would involve legal liability considerations. This is unfortunate, since this is medical data like it or not. Also, the app does not provide for emailing the data, though the iPSO2 manual states that this can be done on the Options page. There is an error message if you click on Email History that Mail has not been configured. If this refers to the iPad Mail app, there's no provision that I can find to configure it other than for regular email use, which I use all the time. Some clarification would be helpful here.
