  • Let me set my own goals!

    By Kristal_Science (Pcmac user)

I just switched from the Up app when I got a Shine. I love the tracker, but less so the app. This app works OK, but required some setting experimentation with my Apple Health app, since at first it was double-counting steps and retroactively adjusting my total down, since I sometimes don't carry my phone. That's said, my biggest problem with this app is not being able to set my own goals. The fitness goals are based on points, which first I thought was good because it would count other activities like cycling. However, when I took a 10 mile ride, and logged it to the app, it didn't add any points to my total. Why not just call it steps if other activities don't get converted? Also, there are 3 levels of fitness goals, which are not customizable. I want to step my goals up over time, not set an impossible goal I'm never able to meet, or a goal so low it's not motivating. And the weight goal is laughable--and completely worthless--since it's not what I am aiming for. Oh, and now the app crashes when I try to sign in (after updating app) so I can't see any of my history! Hopefully that will be fixed, but until I can set my own goals this app is barely adequate, when there's so much more potential here.
  • Wanted to love this

I’ve had my this app for years. The first 6 months the unit kept falling out of its watch band; the company actually sent me replacements twice *and* a sturdier watch band. The new band was only slightly better at keeping the this app unit attached. Thankfully it’s magnetic; i found it once stuck on the outside of my car. It wasn’t until i spent $70+ on the “pendant” holder did my issues with losing it end. If only having the this app lay on my chest resulted in an accurate count on my steps/activity; it was and has never been accurate. My unit is not an “older” model. I’m not going to invest in a newer model, even though the expectation would be an improved unit. I have an i watch now that accurately records swimming (I chose the this app because it’s waterproof, but it never ever was accurate in the pool worn around my neck). I still wear the this app to get information on my sleep; which I think *is* accurate. I get loads of compliments on my pendant and it is pretty. I do not recommend the this app I own. Again the newer models are likely to be improved, I’m just not willing to invest any more money on this brand on a hope.
  • User Since 2014

    By MommaBat1134 (Pcmac user)

I’m still a fan of this app and I’m so glad they haven’t fizzled out like other unique activity trackers or other independent smart watch brands with innovative and stylish designs. I’m still baffled that this app’s line of activity trackers and smart watches haven’t caught on more. I have owned the Flash, my first this app, the Shine 1 & 2, Ray and even though I was late to getting one The Swarovski Activity Crystal is the prettiest fitness tracker out there. All of their designs, in my opinion look better on the wrist, as they have a slimmer profile. I’ve compared the this app with other brands of trackers and find them to be quite accurate and they also seem to track sleep far easier than some other brands. The app was a little bit finicky in the beginning but over the past few years, I rarely ever have a day where it has trouble synchronizing.
  • More issues recently

    By brosan01 (Pcmac user)

I’ve found that this app has become less user friendly over time. The app won’t sync consistently and when it does, sometimes your progress is reduced or erased completely. I’ve installed new batteries and that has not solved the issue. A few weeks ago, I synced my Shine mid morning and then later in the evening. My Shine displayed that I had met my goal for the day in the evening but when I synced in the evening, all my progress was erased from the app and my Shine and I ended the day at almost no progress. I’ve had several other issues with the app not logging swims, while the Shine, has displayed that I’d met my goal before syncing. I also find the app less than user friendly as you can’t manually add activities to previous days. I’ve attempted to manually enter activities, the day of, and it’s saved my entry but no points were added. I know you can adjust the intensity level of some activities when you’re manually entering but not all activities, which is less than ideal. Overall, I love my Shine but get more and more frustrated the more I use the app.
